Fernando Verdasco and Marcel Granollers pulled off a pair of upsets to set up a date in Sunday’s final in Gstaad.
Fernando Verdasco (4) def. Nicolas Almagro (1) 6-7(2), 7-6(2), 6-3
For nearly two full sets, Spain’s Nicolas Almagro out-played his countryman and appeared headed for a straight set victory and a second trip into the finals in as many weeks. Fernando Verdasco was wise to stick to Almagro’s heels through the second set. The top seed won the first facing no break points and dominating the tiebreaker.
The second set was a near clone to the first, except that Almagro faced 2 break points, which he saved. Verdasco looked on his way to a straight-set loss, but Almagro had an inexplicable let-down in the tiebreaker. The No. 4 seed held his countryman to 2 points and quickly the match was level at a set a piece.
Almagro completely fell apart in the third set. He went for too much far too soon and ended up dropping serve 3 times to give Verdasco passage into the finals.
Marcel Granollers (8) def. Mikhail Youzhny 6-3, 3-6, 6-2
After dropping the first set to Spaniard Marcel Granollers, Russian Mikhail Youzhny came storming back in the second, playing good clay court tennis and staving off all 3 break points against him. The Russian was up a break in the third, leading 2-0 when suddenly his game completely fell apart. Granollers won 6 games in a row to take the third with an unlikely 6-2 scoreline.

haven't seen much tennis lately but saw dolgopolov and cilic yesterday, they looked very inspired. and harrison looked EXTREMELY nervous during warm-up&first games against fish... so sure there is something emotional out there...

It's around this time of the year when we see the stresses and strain of life on the circuit taking its toll. I've only watched snatches of play here and there in the past few weeks but on several occasions was struck by the lack-lustre play. A lot of the time they look as if they are just grinding their way through the matches.
