Heavy rain canceled most play in Gstaad on Wednesday, but not before Mikhail Youzhny became the first player into the quarterfinals.
Gstaad featured a short day of tennis for the fans, as rain canceled almost all of the play for the day. Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny played the only second round match of the day, taking on Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin.
Istomin did not make much of a impact on Youzhny at all. The Russian dropped serve once, but the break of serve, which came in the second set, made no difference in the outcome of the match.
Youzhny converted on 9 of 13 break point chances, including 3 in the second set. The Russian served at a modest 58% for the match and managed to secure the win in an hour and thirteen minutes.
