World No. 5 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is through to the French Open quarterfinals after holding off 18th seed Stanislas Wawrinka in five sets. The Frenchman will take on world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the next round.

Fifth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga made his first French Open quarterfinal, having ousted Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka in five sets. The 27-year-old Frenchman tallied 49 winners en route to a 6-4, 7-6(6), 3-6, 3-6, 6-4 victory in four hours and six minutes.

After losing a two-sets-to-love advantage, Tsonga came back to break serve twice in the final set. The world No. 5 completed the fourth-round match with five of 13 break points converted.

"Today, I came on the court (in) good spirits," said Tsonga. "I had a good night. I slept well. I was ready to play again."

He is slated to meet world No. 1 Novak Djokovic for a place in the semifinals. The top seed survived an extended battle with 22nd seed Andreas Seppi on Sunday, 4-6, 6-7(5), 6-3, 7-5, 6-3.
