  • Nadal routines Bolelli in Paris opener

    5/29/12 8:35 PM | Cheryl Murray
Rafael Nadal zipped through his opening-round match against Simone Bolelli as the Spaniard started his title defense.

World No. 2 Rafael Nadal made short work of Italian opponent Simone Bolelli. The Spaniard started off the match with a few more errors than he usually does on a clay court, but he quickly found his range.

Bolelli stood at the back of the court and went for broke, but he also donated far too many unforced errors to the Nadal cause. Nadal broke for 4-2 and again for the set at 5-2 to take a commanding lead.

The six-time champion sprinted out to a 4-0 lead in the second set, but Bolelli's attacking style actually paid dividends. Bolelli managed to get one of the breaks back and held, but those were the last games he won in the set.

Nadal rolled into the third set playing tidy, controlled tennis. Bolelli could not keep up with Nadal's punishing groundstrokes and only put up one more game for the match.

The Spaniard will take on Denis Istomin in the second round.

I just have to say that I love the color of Rafa's shirt. At times on my HD tv it looked red and then in different light it looked like a pinky red. I think it is quite flattering!

I am happy that Rafa got his feet under him and now it's on to Istomin. One match at a time, Rafa!
