  • Murray rallies to defeat Gasquet

    6/4/12 8:24 PM | Kelli DeMario
World No. 4 Andy Murray made the last eight at the French Open, having secured a four-sets victory over France’s Richard Gasquet. The Scot is through to take on world No. 6 David Ferrer in the next round.

Fourth seed Andy Murray advanced to the quarterfinals by virtue of his four-sets win against 17th seed Richard Gasquet late Monday. The 25-year-old dropped the opening set but came back to seal the victory in four sets, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-2.

After rallying to take a two-sets-to-one advantage, Murray broke to 2-1 and 4-1 in the fourth set. The Scot had two match points at 5-1 but was unable to convert. A third match point came at 5-2 for the fourth seed, who closed on a well-timed forehand winner.

Murray completed the fourth-round effort with 59 winners, eight aces and six breaks of serve.

He will meet sixth seed David Ferrer for a place in the semifinals. The Spaniard defeated 20th seed Marcel Granollers in the round of 16, 6-3, 6-2, 6-0.

A typical slow start as Andy got used to the conditions but what followed was a bit of a master class. 28 forehand winners. Yessss!
Poor old Crashquet, the French will crucify him. Actually thought the crowd was awful. In Uk we applaud good shots whoever is making them. This crowd actually booed Andy, b4, during and after. Ha! That's probably what fired him up.
From other thread:
Yes, croc, he looked amazingly muscular..."gulp"
chloro, I've already told them EVERYTHING...;)

Muzza is playing great, considering he hasn't had much clay practice prior to RG.

deuce,
don't let them think that... whether they keep you soul and body together depends on it

Muzzer is certainly playing way better than anyone would have expected. His match against Ferrer will be enthralling encounter

does anyone have a link showing the point at 1-6 4-4 where gasquet gets fed up with murray for complaining about back pains every time he lost a point?

croc , 6/5/12 12:53 PM

Your next two opponents, they haven't lost a set so far.
Go andy, they are afford to lose three sets against you.
Go all the way..
