(6) David Ferrer def. Benoit Paire 6-3, 6-3, 6-2
World No. 6 David Ferrer continued his run on Thursday, having ousted France’s Benoit Paire in straight sets. The 30-year-old Spaniard secured seven of 20 break-point chances through to a 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 victory in 107 minutes of play.
"I played well," said Ferrer. "I was consistent and I didn't give him many opportunities so that he could really get into the match. He's very aggressive with drop shots, with an exceptional touch, but the good thing is that I could break him during the first set quickly and won the match."
Ferrer completed the match with 19 winners. He is slated to face former world No. 8 Mikhail Youzhny in the next round.
(17) Richard Gasquet def. Grigor Dimitrov 5-7, 7-5, 6-2, 6-3
Seventeenth seed Richard Gasquet advanced to the third round after rallying to upend Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in four sets. The 25-year-old Frenchman tallied 10 aces and 43 winners en route to a 5-7, 7-5, 6-2, 6-3 win late Thursday. Gasquet ended the three-hour, 26-minute match with seven of 23 break points converted.
He will take on veteran Tommy Haas in round three. The German dispatched Sergiy Stakhovsky in the second round, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2.
