  • Roddick, Harrison advance to quarterfinals at Eastbourne

    6/21/12 1:07 AM | Cheryl Murray
It was a good day for Americans as veteran Andy Roddick and newcomer Ryan Harrison advanced at the AEGON International.

Andy Roddick (6) def. Jeremy Chardy 6-2, 7-6(6)

Andy Roddick had a good day at the office on Wednesday, with the No. 6 seed starting to find his grass court form after a few months of dismal results this spring. The American took on France’s Jeremy Chardy and struck 7 aces in the 2-set match. Chardy was unable to gain footing against the American, not earning a single break point chance, while surrendering 2 of 7 on his own serve.

Roddick will take on the Italian clay courter Fabio Fognini in the quarterfinals.

    Ryan Harrison def. Yen-Hsun Lu 6-1, 7-6(2)

American Ryan Harrison had a lengthy match in the opening round this week against Australia’s Vasek Pospisil. He was much more efficient on Wednesday against Yen-Hsun Lu. The man from Taipai had difficulty getting his rhythm at the start of the match and Harrison sprinted out to a 6-1 lead.

Lu was far more competitive in the second set. He had 4 chances to break the American’s serve, but Harrison was able to hang on to force the tiebreaker. Lu didn’t have enough to level the match, however. Harrison was dominant in the breaker to take the match in straight sets.

The American will battle Denis Istomin in the quarterfinals.
