Gael Monfils spent just over an hour on court to dispatch of Germany’s Phlipp Kohlschreiber.
No. 6 seed Gael Monfils looked great in this match, but that is thanks in part to dismal play on the part of Germany’s Philipp Kohlschreiber.
The German was only competitive for the first 4 games of the match. He managed to stick with Monfils until 2-2, but as soon as he was broken the first time, his game fell apart. Kohlschreiber looked flat-footed and donated far too many errors to the Monfils cause.
The Frenchman went on to break 4 times in the match without facing a single break point himself. He moves into the quarterfinals where he is joined by 7 of the 8 top seeds. Only David Ferrer, who is short on match play, is absent due to a loss to No. 10 seed Gilles Simon.
