Twelfth seed Richard Gasquet made a successful start in Cincinnati, having ousted Alexandr Dolgopolov in straight sets. The Frenchman is joined in the second round by Fernando Verdasco, who beat Thomaz Bellucci.

World No. 13 Richard Gasquet recorded his 30th match victory of the season on Monday, following his straight-set win against Alexandr Dolgopolov. The 25-year-old Frenchman held 10 consecutive service games through 71 minutes. Gasquet collected a half-dozen aces and won 34 of 41 points on his first serve.
He is slated to meet either Xavier Malisse or Kevin Anderson in the second round.

World No. 21 Fernando Verdasco is through to the second round, having upended Thomaz Bellucci in straight sets early Monday. The Spaniard saved six of 7 break points, en route to a first-round victory in an hour and 47 minutes of play. He completed the effort with four aces and 72% of his first-service points won.
Verdasco will take on Mikhail Youzhny or Michael Llodra in the next round.
