A hobbled Tomas Berdych takes an early lead against Novak Djokovic but ends up retiring after losing the first set on Saturday in Cincinnati. Djokovic advances to the final against Andy Murray.
Novak Djokovic booked a spot in yet another final on Saturday afternoon, getting past Tomas Berdych in the semifinals of the Western & Southern Open. Djokovic came back to win the first set 7-5 before Berdych retired due to a shoulder injury.
Coming off an impressive upset of Roger Federer, Berdych maintained his momentum early in this one and even went up a break with some convincing play at 3-3. The ninth-ranked Czech consolidated the advantage for 5-3, but that's when it all started to fall apart.
Djokovic won the next four games to take the opening frame of play, breaking easily in each of his opponent's last two service games. When the set ended, Berdych called it quits.
"Since the match was going on, then especially (the injury) started more on the serve, which is for me the worst. I felt pretty well in the beginning, so I was pretty much confident that if I would stay healthy that I would have a really good chance today. Right now I'm just really hoping to get ready to be ready for my first match at the US Open."
Djokovic moves on to face Andy Murray in Sunday's title match.

Zare attacking... :) ... no ...he really looks tired... body language bad... but man... he still goes on.
He will have 9,10 days before USO... it's not some serious injury.

Zare, numero just doesn't deserve answers on such a malicious thoughts. Anyway, I hope that Nole's shoulder recovers on time for US Open and that he is not saturated with amount of tennis games he plays this season

I'm sure its case of soreness in the shoulder from a lot of serving. In any case, Murray looks the part for the final - he's broken his hex against Fish and is playing better tennis than Nole right now. But Nole has proven me wrong everytime I expected him to lose, so it might be that he surprises and wins tomorrow as well :D

I have a sneaky feeling Nole may burn himself out before USO or possibly worsen his shoulder problem. It seems to me that his fitness isn't quite what it was earlier in the year. He's looked tired in a few of the matches and looked very beatable against Fish, Monfils and Berdych. I'm not hoping for this (before zare attacks me:)); just have that feeling.
