    8/19/11 9:35 PM | Kelli DeMario
World No. 7 Mardy Fish continued his run at the Western & Southern Open early Friday, having ousted World No. 2 Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinal. The American is through to face Andy Murray in the semifinal.

World No. 7 Mardy Fish recorded his first victory over World No. 2 Rafael Nadal Friday afternoon. The 29-year-old veteran came through the quarterfinal in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Fish held 10 consecutive service games through an hour and 40 minutes.

Fish broke at 2-1 in the opening set, after Nadal gifted a double fault. Set point came at 5-3 for the American, who closed on a forehand error from Nadal.

Fish kept the momentum into set two, having broke to 3-2 on another Nadal error. He reached set point at 5-4, then completed the day with a backhand winner.

Fish is slated to meet World No. 4 Andy Murray for a spot in the championship final. The Scot dismissed 10th seed Gilles Simon in the quarterfinal, 6-3, 6-3.

Such a magnificent win against Nadal makes Fish one of the favorites not only for Cincinnati, but for the US Open as well. His age (29) gives some doubts though...

Rafa's post match comments:

"Sometimes you are playing well; sometimes you are playing worse. I am playing a little bit worse now than well, so I accept the loss and work hard - that's the only way to come back to my best level," said Nadal.

"My movement wasn't perfect, I made more mistakes than usual with the forehand. I have to play more inside the court, more aggressively," he said.

"I have a few things to improve if I want to be ready for New York. I am going to work on that. I don't know if I will be in perfect condition in New York, but for sure, I will try everything."

Vamos Rafa.............................see u in New York!!

the same old story...I wish if he could say something different, something new something unexpected, whatever that might be...I can't even count how many times he had said he needs to "play more inside the court, more aggressively" and then what happens...Rafa has to change his mindset and he certainly has to implement what he says he would do...Rafa has to WAKE UP and FIGHT!!!

VAMOS!!!
