World No. 2 Rafael Nadal bounced back after an abbreviated run in Canada, having ousted veteran qualifier Julien Benneteau early Wednesday. The second seed came through the match in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5.
World No. 2 Rafael Nadal is through to the third round, following his straight-set victory over Frenchman Julien Benneteau Wednesday afternoon. The 25-year-old tallied 9 aces and three service breaks, en route to a 6-4, 7-5 win in 93 minutes.
After taking the opening set 6-4, Nadal led 5-3 in the second set. He was broken serving for the match, but regrouped quickly to break again to 6-5. The World No. 2 completed the second-round effort with 29 of 34 first-service points captured.
He will take on either compatriot Fernando Verdasco or Michael Llodra for a place in the quarterfinal.
