Andy Murray recovers from a break down in the first set to race past David Nalbandian during second-round action in Cincinnati on Wednesday. Murray awaits either Jo-Wilfried Tsonga or Alex Bogomolov.
Andy Murray bounced back from an opening loss in Montreal to hammer David Nalbandian 6-4, 6-1 in the second round of the Western & Southern Open on Wednesday afternoon. Murray, who dropped a listless second-round match to Kevin Anderson last week, broke serve six times and advanced after one hour and 17 minutes.
The fourth-ranked Scot got broken right away to fall behind 2-0 and he did not take complete control until late in the first set. Murray recovered a break at 3-4, held for a 5-4 advantage, then seized his third break of the day to clinch the opening set in style.
Having thrown away the first set, Nalbandian was completely hopeless in the second. The 66th-ranked Argentine actually broke at 0-2 to briefly get back into the match, but he held none of his service games during the set. A routine hold for Murray at 5-1 ended the proceedings and put Nalbandian out of his misery.
Cincinnati's No. 4 seed and 2008 champion wrapped up his effort with five aces and two double-faults while benefiting from five double-faults by his opponent. Murray now awaits either Jo-Wilfried Tsonga or Alex Bogomolov.
