Andy Murray takes care of Alex Bogomolov in straight sets on Thursday in Cincinnati. Murray is through to a quarterfinal meeting with either David Ferrer or Gilles Simon.
Andy Murray was not about to lose to Alex Bogomolov for a second straight time.
Murray, who fell to the underdog American in a Miami stunner earlier this season, took control right from the start and scored a 6-2, 7-5 victory in the third round of the Western & Southern Open on Thursday afternoon. Cincinnati's No. 4 seed prevailed in one hour and 41 minutes and he now awaits either David Ferrer or Gilles Simon in the quarterfinals.
Eager to avenge the recent setback, Murray came out firing and seized a pair of breaks in the first set. One would have been enough for the Scot, because he saved all three of the break points he faced before closing out the opening frame of play on serve at 5-2.
Murray appeared to be off to the races with an early break in set two, but Bogomolov did not go away quietly. The 28-year-old American broke back for 4-4 only to see his success short-lived. Murray's fifth break of the day came at 5-5 and he finished off the proceedings with ease one game later.
"It was good," said Murray, who recorded 11 aces and six double-faults. "I played better today (than in Miami). I was struggling a lot in Miami and didn't play well at all.... I was hitting the ball cleaner from the back of the court."
