  • Dolgopolov, Istomin crash out of Casablanca

    4/11/12 8:15 PM | Kelli DeMario
Two of the top four seeds are out of the Grand Prix Hassan II after both Alexandr Dolgopolov and Denis Istomin lost their opening-round matches. Respective opponents Flavio Cipolla and Igor Andreev move on to the quarterfinals.

    Igor Andreev def. (4) Denis Istomin 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-2

World No. 100 Igor Andreev is through to the quarterfinals after rallying to oust 4th seed Denis Istomin. The Russian converted four of 10 service breaks through two hours and 17 minutes of play.

"It was a difficult match in difficult conditions," said Andreev. "I'm happy that I managed to win and qualify for the quarterfinal. This is a good event for me. I only played here once before and reached the semifinal back in 2009. Denis has been playing very well lately and this win gives me a lot of confidence."

Andreev will take on Guillermo Garcia-Lopez for a place in the semifinals. The Spaniard dismissed former champion Paul-Henri Mathieu in the round of 16, 6-4, 6-2.

Flavio Cipolla def. (2/WC) Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-4, 6-1

World No. 85 Flavio Cipolla advanced to the final eight, having taken out 2nd seed Alexandr Dolgopolov in straight sets. The Italian needed just 63 minutes to seal the second-round victory, 6-4, 6-1. He completed the effort with eight service games held without facing break-point.

Cipolla is next to take on France's Benoit Paire, who rallied to defeat Matthias Bachinger in the second round.
