Bucharest - Chela advances, Starace retires

Defending champion Juan Ignacio Chela is through to the quarterfinals after crushing qualifier Florent Serra late Wednesday. Pere Riba also moved on following the retirement of 6th seed Potito Starace.

Top seed Juan Ignacio Chela made quick work of opponent Florent Serra, having downed the Frenchman in just 62 minutes. The Argentine surrendered 11 points on serve through to a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Chela completed the second-round effort with six of 11 break-points converted.
"I'm very happy to win my first match here," said Chela. "He's a dangerous player and I didn't know how I would start after all the excitement during the last weekend in Serbia with the Argentinean Davis Cup team. It is a beautiful feeling to come back here as the defending champion after winning both singles and doubles in Bucharest last year."
Chela is slated to take on 7th seed Andreas Seppi in the quarterfinals. The Italian held on to oust Igor Andreev in the second round, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.
Pere Riba def. (6) Potito Starace 6-1, 3-2 (retired)
Pere Riba is through to the second round as 6th seed Potito Starace retired in the second set. The 23-year-old Spaniard had built a 6-1, 3-2 lead when the Italian called it a day, due to exhaustion. Riba held six consecutive service games through 59 minutes of competition.
He will face compatriot Albert Ramos in the next round.
