Tournament seed Andreas Seppi made the second round, following his three-set win over Eric Prodon. The Italian is joined in round two by compatriot Alessandro Giannessi, who upset 8th seed Albert Montanes.

Seventh seed Andreas Seppi survived a challenging opening round, having held on to defeat veteran Eric Prodon in three sets. The Italian converted six of 13 break points, en route to a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 victory in an hour and 42 minutes. The Frenchman struggled with his second serve, with just 11 of 32 points captured.
Seppi is slated to face Igor Andreev for a place in the quarterfinals. The Russian rallied to dismiss qualifier Peter Torebko in the first round, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5.

Qualifier Alessandro Giannessi recorded his first tour-level win after taking out 8th seed Albert Montanes, 7-5, 6-4. The 21-year-old secured five of 9 break points through one hour and 48 minutes of play. Montanes remains without a Tour-level victory since early August, when he advanced to the final in Kitzbuhel.
Giannessi will take on Frederico Gil in the next round. Gil rallied to down Jeremy Chardy in the opening round, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
