Juan Carlos Ferrero erases Lukasz Kubot in straight sets on Sunday evening in the final of the Brasil Open. Ferrero wins his 13th career ATP title in 30 final appearances.
Lukasz Kubot enjoyed a wild week in Costa do Sauipe, but his singles campaign came to a crashing halt on Sunday evening.
Juan Carlos Ferrero destroyed Kubot 6-1, 6-0 in the final of the Brasil Open, needing exactly one hour to capture his 13th career ATP title. Ferrero was competing in his 30th final, whereas Kubot had appearing in just his second title match (2009 Belgrade).
The difference was obvious right from the start. Although he surrendered an early break of his own serve, Ferrero did not lose a single game the entire rest of the way. The 30-year-old Spaniard broke Kubot in the first and third games of the match and every game thereafter. Punishing Kubot from the baseline and passing him almost every time the unseeded Pole ventured into the net, Ferrero used his fourth break of the day to win the first set in style.
Kubot, who won only 12 points in the opening frame of play, won the same amount in a similar second set. The world No. 56 served at just 38 percent in set two and won a dismal three of 13 second-serve points while also winning less than 40 percent of his first-serve points. Ferrero, on the other hand, made 16 of 18 first serves in his final three service games and did not face a break point.
Ferrero finished with a mere one ace and one double-fault, but his all-court game absolutely demoralized Kubot. The former world No. 1 and 2003 French Open champion won all seven of Kubot's service games and an amazing 19 of 24 second-serve return points.
"You never expect to play a one-sided final like this," Ferrero explained. "I thought I played well from the beginning and with two breaks of serve ahead quite early in the match I never looked back."
"Juan Carlos played a great match and didn’t give me any chances," said Kubot, who is also in the doubles final. "I hope I can make it up in the doubles final later tonight."
Congrats and Bravos, JCF, so happy for you! luv u forever!
