David Nalbandian earned a spot in Saturday’s semifinals with a victory over Joao Souza on Friday.

David Nalbandian (4) def. Joao Souza 6-3, 6-2

Argentina’s David Nalbandian found his way into the Serbia Open semifinals without much trouble. He took on Brazil’s Joao Souza, a player ranked No. 116 in the world.

The Argentine had a small letdown in the first sets, giving up a service break to Souza, but he was able to secure a pair of service breaks on the strength of his two-handed backhand.

Nalbandian breeezed through the second set with another pair of breaks of the Souza serve. The Argentine will take on No. 2 seed Andreas Seppi in the semis.

    Andreas Seppi (2) def. Gilles Muller (8) 6-4, 6-3

Seppi secured his third career win over Gilles Muller of Luxembourg on Friday in Belgrade. It was their first ever meeting on clay, which is Seppi’s preferred surface.

Even with a 10 ace tally for the match, Muller never really got a toe-hold in this match. Seppi managed to break serve three times in the match despite Muller’s big serving. The Italian only faced one break point on his own serve.
