(1) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga def. Grigor Dimitrov 7-6(5), 7-5
Top seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga came through a competitive match with Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets Tuesday afternoon. The Frenchman collected nine aces and two service breaks, through to a 7-6(5), 7-5 victory in an hour and 48 minutes.
"For me it was difficult to play Grigor because he's a really good player," said Tsonga. "For the first round, it was not easy. Today for me I didn't move really well, I didn't hit the ball really good, but I was on the court with my head and I did it. So I'm really happy to go through this one."
The world No. 7 will take on Chinese wildcard Ze Zhang for a place in the quarterfinals.
(3) Tomas Berdych def. Jurgen Melzer 7-5, 7-5
Third seed Tomas Berdych advanced to the second round following his 7-5, 7-5 victory over Jurgen Melzer. The 26-year-old Czech held twelve consecutive service games through 97 minutes of play. Berdych completed his effort with five aces and two breaks of serve.
He is scheduled to face qualifier Philipp Kohlschreiber in the next round. The German dismissed Tommy Robredo in the first round.
