World No. 7 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is through to the quarterfinal, having upended Chinese wildcard entrant Ze Zhang. The 26-year-old tallied 8 aces and 3 breaks of serve, en route to a 6-3, 6-4 victory in an hour and 16 minutes. Tsonga completed the round of 16 effort with 80% of his first-service points won.

"It was not easy today, and I'm happy to win," said Tsonga. "I think when you reach the Top 100 you can see the difference with the serve and with the returns."

He is slated to meet Juan Carlos Ferrero for a place in the semifinal.

Juan Carlos Ferrero def. Marcel Granollers 6-4, 6-4

Former World No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero made the last eight by virtue of his straight-set victory over fellow Spaniard Marcel Granollers. The veteran extended his series lead to 5-0 against Granollers, having come through the match in 98 minutes. Ferrero held 10 consecutive service games through to a 6-4, 6-4 success.

"Marcel is very good friend of mine, so (it is) always not nice to beat him or another player," said Ferrero. "His style to me is good. I like to play against him. I feel very good every time I come to Asia. I know that I have a lot fans here supporting me all the time, so for me it's amazing to come here very far, far away from home and feel like at home.”
