Ljubicic, Youzhny reach China Open quarterfinal

Fellow veterans Ivan Ljubicic and Mikhail Youzhny are through to the last eight in Beijing, having downed respective opponents Florian Mayer and Feliciano Lopez.

Former world No. 3 Ivan Ljubicic advanced to the quarterfinals by virtue of his three-set win over Florian Mayer. The 32-year-old captured the first seven games before dropping the second set. He went on to regroup with six aces and 14 of 14 first-service points won in the decider. Ljubicic ended the match with 13 aces and four service breaks in an hour and 53 minutes.
He is slated to battle Mikhail Youzhny for a place in the semifinals.
Mikhail Youzhny def. Feliciano Lopez 6-7(5), 6-2, 7-5
Former world No. 8 Mikhail Youzhny fought through a tricky round of 16, where he rallied to oust Feliciano Lopez in three sets. The Russian withstood 20 aces from the Spaniard to win the match in two hours and 24 minutes. Youzhny completed the effort with six of 10 break-point opportunities converted.
