World No. 1 Novak Djokovic made quick work of qualifier Lukasz Kubot, having raced to a straight-set victory in under an hour. The top seed moves on to face Marcos Baghdatis in the next round.
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic reached the final eight in Basel following his 6-1, 6-2 win over veteran Lukasz Kubot. The 24-year-old lost just 10 points on serve through 55 minutes of play. He completed the round of 16 effort with eight aces and 22 of 27 first-service points captured.
"It’s great to play well again," said Djokovic. "I think I did play well at the start of the first match, and then I had big ups and down throughout the match. I had a lot of unforced errors and double faults at important moments, but it was kind of expected because it was the first match after six weeks after a big injury - probably the biggest in my career. Today is another story. I felt good on the court and I’m happy to go through.
"It’s a great tournament, obviously very strong main draw that we have, a lot of top players coming out; this year five of the Top 8 were playing in the tournament. It’s great attendance. People really appreciate and love tennis in Basel."
Djokovic is scheduled to play former world No. 8 Marcos Baghdatis for a spot in the semifinals. The Cypriot held on to defeat Swiss qualifier Michael Lammer in the round of 16.
