Baghdatis through to Basel quarterfinals

Marcos Baghdatis advanced to the final eight at the Swiss Indoors Basel, having ousted qualifier Michael Lammer in three sets. Qualifier Lukasz Kubot won his opener to set a round of 16 clash with world No. 1 Novak Djokovic.

Former world No. 8 Marcos Baghdatis survived a tricky round of 16, having held on to defeat Swiss qualifier Michael Lammer in three sets. After splitting the first two tie-break sets, the 26-year-old secured a critical service break in the decider. Baghdatis completed the winning effort with nine aces and 17 service games held through two hours and 40 minutes.
He will square off against either world No. 1 Novak Djokovic or qualifier Lukasz Kubot in the next round.
(Q) Lukasz Kubot def. (Q) Tobias Kamke 5-7, 7-5, 6-2
Kubot, a qualifier, is through to the second round after rallying to upend fellow qualifier Tobias Kamke. The veteran saved six of six break points in the final set to seal a two-hour, 58-minute victory. He ended the match with seven aces and seven of nine break points converted.
Kubot is slated to meet 2010 finalist Djokovic in the second round.
