11/5/11 3:39 AM | Cheryl Murray
Stanislas Wawrinka had a decisive win over Germany’s Florian Mayer to make his way into the semis of his home tournament.
Serving was generally abysmal in this match. Neither man served even at 40% for the match, though Stanislas Wawrinka at least tossed in 7 aces. Florian Mayer had no aces, no break points, but he faced 9 on his own serve.
With a packed house pulling hard for Wawrinka, the Swiss put on an impressive show. Wawrinka’s one-handed backhand was clicking beautifully as he took advantage of the shaky play from Mayer’s end of the net.
Wawrinka dropped just 9 points on serve in the two sets en route to Saturday’s showdown against friend and countryman Roger Federer.
