    World No. 2 Rafael Nadal continued his title defense with a straight-sets victory over qualifier Robert Farah on Thursday. The top seed is through to meet fifth seed Janko Tipsarevic in the next round.

    Rafael Nadal made the final eight at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, having ousted qualifier Robert Farah in straight sets. The 25-year-old converted five of 10 break points en route to a 6-2, 6-3 victory in 87 minutes.

    Nadal led 2-0 in the opening set, then followed with an insurance break at 4-2. The defending champion went on to close the set as Farah missed a service return. After trading early breaks in set two, Nadal earned a key break to lead 4-3. Match point came at 5-3 for the World No. 2, who completed the day on a Farah double fault.

    Nadal ended the match with 19 of 25 first-service points captured.

    He will take on fifth seed Janko Tipsarevic in the quarterfinals. The Serbian defeated Portugal’s Frederico Gil in the third round, 6-2, 6-2.
