  • Barcelona - Nadal cruises into round of 16

    4/25/12 6:17 PM | Kelli DeMario
World No. 2 Rafael Nadal made a successful start to his Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell title defense, having upended fellow Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in straight sets. The top seed is through to the third round.

World No. 2 Rafael Nadal advanced to the third round after taking out compatriot Guillermo Garcia-Lopez Wednesday afternoon. The defending champion converted six of 15 break points en route to a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

Nadal completed the 82-minute, opening-round effort with 81% of his first-service points captured.

He will take on either 16th Pablo Andujar or qualifier Robert Farah for a place in the quarterfinals.

Just keep up the momentum.

Vamos Rafa!

It is expected. From now on it only gets better for the King, the claycourts at Barcelona suits his game very well and I doubt that he will drop a set enroute to defending his title. Its year another month of trophies for Rafa as the past 7 years. Records just keep on coming with this guy.
For rafa, the more he plays on clay the better he gets, so it will really be diffcult for anyone to stop him this particular clay season.
The only slim chance of him not sweeping the clay season would be in Madrid because of the high altitude and funny flight of balls. That court is more like hard court and thats where he is a bit vulnerable.
My money still is on rafa completing another clay slam.
Let him continue to grow in confidence. Don't see him dropping a set this week either.

Who the heck is Robert Farah, the guy who just beat Andujar? I don't like it when Rafa gets to play "unknowns", they can serve up nasty surprises...........

After hearing this good news, I don't care if Rafa is playing Mickey Mouse in his next match! It doesn't matter. He appears to have some real momentum now coming out of MC. On clay he can beat even a nobody.

Well done, Rafa!
