11/10/11 2:59 PM | Cheryl Murray
Tomas Berdych got his first ever victory over Serbia’s Janko Tipsarevic, and with it one of the three remaining spots at the World Tour Finals in London.
The Czech Republic’s Tomas Berdych mounted a massive comeback in both the first and second sets to advance to the quarterfinals in Paris. Opponent Janko Tipsarevic, who defeated Berdych in each of their previous meetings, held a decisive 5-1 lead in the first set. The Serb served for the set at 5-2, only to drop the next five games and give Berdych the set lead.
Tipsarevic appeared to right the ship in the second. The world No. 13 drew first blood in the second and served for 5-3. Berdych fought back again, secured a break to level the set at 4-4, and broke on Tipsarevic’s next service game for the win.
Berdych will take on Andy Murray in the quarters.
