  • Berdych upsets Murray, moves into Paris semis

    11/11/11 11:34 PM | Cheryl Murray
Tomas Berdych handed Andy Murray his first defeat in months on Friday, as the Czech moved into the Paris Masters semifinals.

After a hard-fought pair of sets, the decisive third and match was essentially decided with a double-fault.

Andy Murray was the better player in the opening set. Both men had ample chances to break serve, but it was the Scot who finally converted 1 of the 9 points he earned in the set. Tomas Berdych had 5 chances to break, but Murray staved off each of them.

Berdych actually had the lead in the second set. The Czech served to level the match at a set a piece but Murray broke back to force the tiebreaker. Berdych, who was the more aggressive player, just edged out the breaker to force a third.

The third set easily fell under the heading of wild. Murray had 5 chances to break serve, none of which he managed to convert. At 4-4, Berdych finally earned himself a 0-40 lead, but he then hit two unforced errors for 30-40. With the lead slipping away, Murray obliged on the Czech’s last break point by double-faulting and essentially gift-wrapping the set.

Berdych will take on familiar rival Roger Federer in the semifinals.

There was a coment I did, I guess it was definitely worth to be upset about. I logged it but has not shown. Thanks; that will be all.

TAFARIANA , 11/15/11 2:25 AM

I entered the website like I did before. I re-wrote that lost coment to best of my knowledge and it was delightful. After all my great work on whereever I laid my hand, now all have what they searched and wanted, the greatest pieces of writings, still learning and contributed they want to play and make me out a fool. Those coments again as the stolen ones on the website of Samoa I've been working on for past twelve months, and previous three years are - hard-to-come-by. Priceless! So, I'll be for now, jealous people can try, do-not touch my great codes, you have to earn for them. Lastly I'll rest for another time. Ciao, I bid far-tell, I win tremendous..ly.

WTF above?????
However, brilliant interview with Andy in my favourite newspaper, not, of all places
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/tennis/article-2061541/Andy-M urray-interview-Martin-Samuel.html

Deuce: Thanks for that link. Fascinating and illuminating. In fact a brilliant piece of sports writing. Required reading for Andy's admirers AND detractors.

The Murdoch empire were foolish to let Samuels go to the Mail!

ed251137 , 11/15/11 11:00 AM

Glad you liked it ed. For once the reporter just let Andy do the talking.
Do hope alex, mojo and Sosueme find it, and of course rafaisthebest.

deuce , 11/15/11 1:08 PM

wow I hate the Daily Mail!
I now shall have to decide if i hate the both of you 2 :-)
Oh and who the f*&K is the moron posting above & why did Cheryl remove all of the
posts from that Murray thread?
I missed the last half, was it `controversial`?

Sosueme , 11/15/11 2:28 PM

sosueme - I took out all of the posts that were unrelated to the topic. The comments got WAY out of hand and the bickering and insulting was at a ridiculous level. Best to just get rid of them all.

That Murray interview was EXCELLENT. Best one I've seen him do.

cherylmurray , 11/15/11 3:05 PM

Very interesting article. See Andy didn't talk about the mental aspect of his game.

He has to keep working hard and believe that the elusive GS will one day be his.

Loved the part about the pressure of playing in the UK and the british media pressure. It completly makes sense what he said about football and how it is considered an advantage to play at home in front of the club's supporters.

bleck , 11/15/11 3:09 PM

Yeah thanks Deuce it was a great read! I misread your post & thought you were a DM fan, actually for me its more the comments on the website & some of the writers that bother me.
Anyhoo, I thought he was being a little bit deluded not to think his on-court persona is not a big problem, it obviously is & as for taking inspiration from boxers all I can say is that I wish he would start acting like a boxer instead of an arthritic bowler come slam final time!
Cheryl noted, just wish I got to read it.....you make it sound very juicy :-)

Sosueme , 11/15/11 3:17 PM

Sosueme, would not use DM to wipe my.....nose.....

deuce , 11/15/11 7:05 PM

Deuce, fantastic article :) Bleck, the part about pressure of playing in front of a home crowd and the UK media was interesting, I always felt it got to him.
Come on AndyM lets see you enter the arena at the O2 like David Haye and deliver that knockout punch.

mojo , 11/15/11 9:29 PM

Wow, deuce - incredible article in the Mail (- got there eventually!). Definitely the best one yet. So open, revealing and endearing. And so convincing in terms of his mental preparedness for the big one. And such penetrating insights on the British scene - e.g. nanny-culture and futile attempts to b uy in success from overseas (like the Premier League has done at football, if I might add. These aren't aren't the gripes of a loser - they're the home truths of w winner - and someone who had to leave britain to become one.
I know this is very late, but back to the tennis, muzz, fgs get that first service sorted out this winter! There's just no way you're going to beat guys like berdych with less than half of them in.

alex , 11/15/11 10:40 PM

No mojo, like a Klitschko bro (either one):)

Sosueme , 11/15/11 10:58 PM

Glad you all liked it guys :) Andy so honest about his feelings on just about everything-including not quite as good as him tennis commentators, tee hee, and the state of British tennis, yuk!

deuce , 11/16/11 7:29 AM

hey deuce, sosueme and all muzzateers - here's hopin' for THE moment to finally come in 2012 ;)
Happy New Year to all when it comes.
... And c'mon, TT, try and get the big story up before 2012! (Clue: I.L.)

alex , 12/31/11 8:27 PM

alex, just a bit shocking it's not up yet, whereas Tom, Dick and Harriet saying Andy will NEVER get a slam, is always treated as high priority!
Come on Cheryl, let's have your thoughts!

deuce , 1/1/12 10:41 AM

Hey deuce how bout we make this the 'Murray Hires Lendl' thread :)
Tom Perotta on another site says he does't want to hear any more of Murray's 'great potential' until he wins a slam. And there's me fed up with so many saying how he'll never win a slam. Here's hoping they don't end up getting their way between them. Perotta and I clearly not reading the same stuff.
