Andreas Seppi takes out Nikolay Davydenk in straight sets on Monday in Paris. Seppi is through to a second-round meeting with Nicolas Almagro.
Nikolay Davydenko's disappointing 2011 campaign came to an end on Monday evening with a 7-6(2), 7-5 loss to Andreas Seppi in the first round of the BNP Paribas Masters. Seppi converted three of six break points and advanced after one hour and 47 minutes.
Davydenko got off to a fast start, but it was mostly Seppi the rest of the way. The Italian fought back from a 4-1 deficit in the first set to eventually force a tiebreaker. After dropping the first point, Seppi won six in a row for a 6-1 advantage then capitalized on his second set point at 6-2.
The second set saw Davydenko mount a temporary comeback. The 30-year-old Russian donated serve but quickly drew level en route to 5-5. Seppi held in the 11th game to put the pressure on and it was too much for his opponent. Davydenko saved one match point at 5-6 but promptly double-faulted to end the proceedings.
Seppi struck four aces and capitalized on six Davydenko doubles en route to a matchup with Nicolas Almagro. Davydenko hit five aces but won only 48 percent of his second-serve points.
