Number twelve ranked Richard Gasquet took on the hometown favorite Victor Crivoi in the second round of the BCR Open Romania.
France’s Richard Gasquet needed just over one hour to beat Romanian wildcard Victor Crivoi on Thursday. Gasquet had a difficult first round loss at the US Open to Tommy Haas and requested a last minute wildcard into Bucharest. He came in as the tournament number one seed.
Crivoi beat Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo in the round one, which brought his total of ATP matches won to two in his career. The Romanian is ranked 165 in the world and plays almost exclusively on the Challenger tour. To say he was heavily out-gunned on Thursday is an understatement.
Gasquet won all but eleven points on his own serve and broke Crivoi’s serve five times for the match. Perhaps most impressive of all was the fact that Gasquet won over fifty pecent of the points on Crivoi’s serve. Gasquet will play Teimuraz Gabashvili of Russia in the quarterfinals.
