Tournament No. 1 seed Richard Gasquet and No. 6 Carlos Moya squared off on Saturday for the opportunity to play in Sunday’s final.
In a surprisingly easy victory, Carlos Moya breezed past Richard Gasquet, winning in two comfortable sets. With the win, Moya improved his record over the Frenchman to 3-0. His other two meetings with Gasquet came in Sydney in 2007 and Acapulco in 2004. Both were three-set encounters, making this semifinal victory his most convincing yet.
Gasquet never really got a foot in the match. Moya’s return was particularly effective; the Spaniard won a shocking 69% of points on Gasquet’s second serve. He broke Gasquet twice in the first set and once in the second. The Spaniard faced two break points but Gasquet could not convert either of them. Moya will face Gilles Simon of France in the final on Sunday.
This loss compounds an already disappointing summer for Gasquet. He was knocked out of the US Open in the first round by Tommy Haas, and before that suffered a second-round exit in Cincinnati. He also failed to defend his 2007 semifinal points from Wimbledon. The Frenchman has not managed to win a single title in 2008.

Did you know that... Benjamin Becker was given the ATP-tour's rookie of the year award in 2006.
