Spaniard David Ferrer had no trouble easing past Richard Gasquet to earn a spot in the Australian Open quarterfinals.
David Ferrer played well in this fourth-round match, but at least half of the credit for Ferrer’s win can be attributed to Richard Gasquet’s lackluster play.
Ferrer out-served, out-returned and generally outplayed Gasquet. The Frenchman was able to keep the first two sets from being blowouts, but at no time did Ferrer seem in danger of losing the match.
By the third set, Gasquet had completely lost the plot. Ferrer secured three service breaks while Gasquet played match by-stander, with six unforced errors and three winners for the entire frame.
Ferrer’s win sends him into the quarterfinals, where he will face world No. 1 Novak Djokovic.

The hard-working Spanish David Ferrer won in straight sets and made it to the QF. I hope he has a strategy for his match against Novak. The Serbian top-seed is in formidable form. I hope Ferrer will at least make the match interesting by bringing his A-game.
