Rafael Nadal rolls over Lukas Lacko in straight sets on Friday in Melbourne. Nadal awaits either John Isner or Feliciano Lopez in the fourth round.
Rafael Nadal enjoyed a lightning-quick day at the office by his standards, taking care of Lukas Lacko in one hour and 55 minutes during third-round action at the Australian Open on Friday. Nadal played an incredibly clean match, serving at 81 percent with no double-faults to go along with 27 winners and 19 unforced errors.
The world No. 2 seemed to take control immediately, breaking for a 1-0 advantage in the first set. Lacko, though, broke straight back in the second game and then held for 2-1. But that was the extent of Lacko's success throughout the opening frame of play. Nadal added breaks at 2-2 and 4-2 before serving out the proceedings to love.
When the Spaniard again broke right away in the second, this time he was not about to give it back. In fact, Nadal dropped a mere three points in five service games and never gave Lacko any kind of chance to get back on level terms.
At long last Lacko finally held to begin a set, taking a marginal 1-0 lead in the third. The 24-year-old Slovak, however, donated serve in the third game to effectively end his already-slim chances. Nadal's sixth and final break came at 4-2 and he closed out the match with ease one game later.
"The match was a really complete match, a really solid one," said Nadal, who triumphed at this event in 2009. "Very happy about my game. Being in fourth round without losing a set, it's fantastic news.
"I played both matches, three matches at very good level. Today was one of the best, solid, without mistakes, comfortable with the serve, having good return."
Nadal will battle either John Isner or Feliciano Lopez for a spot in the quarterfinals.
