No. 3 seed Roger Federer was master to Bernard Tomic's apprentice as the Swiss veteran defeated Australia's young hopeful in straight sets.
Roger Federer was utterly dominant in his round of 16 match against Bernard Tomic. The Swiss showed why he is the holder of 16 Grand Slam titles, the most of all time.
Tomic could only react as Federer put on a full display of his variety, serving and powerful groundstrokes.
Tomic managed to secure one break of the Federer serve, but he was broken six times himself. He simply could not keep up with Federer's pace of shot.
The world No. 3 finished the match with 13 aces and three double faults, while Tomic managed no aces and a pair of double-faults.
The Australian Open crowd was ready, willing and able to back Tomic, but Federer took them out of the equation with his dominant play.

The sad thing is, Tomic thinks he's arrived.

I hope Tomic was listening to Fed's post-match interview. He said the only way to play the big 4 is to be aggressive...........................somehow I have a feeling Tomic will not take this advice, he is too busy admiring his slices

I think Federer donated a couple of games to Bernard just to encourage him and help the Aussies to continue to wallow in Tomic's 'excellence'.

Ah well, nothing new here. Fed walloped the kid. Yippee!

Fed was testing Tomic's game in that first set, taking the measure of him. He found some big weaknesses that he was able to exploit and really showed that Tomic still has a ways to go before he can play with the big boys.
In the second set, Fed easily took control. He knew just how to take apart Tomic and he did it with precision. It was no contest.

Nativenewyorker, I agree wholeheartedly....
Tomic got to experience a masterclass from Fed last night. The kid is so cocky, it's beyond belief. What doesn't help is that Aussies are pumping him up like he is the next king of tennis.....his head is so big it will explode any minute...
If he has any brains he will listen carefully to Fed's post-match interview and what he had to say....

Congrats to FEDfans. Sorry for Tomic. He is obviously an up an coming, but this was not his night to shine. "The Man Who Would be King, Again" quote by one of the announcers as regards to Roger was priceless the other day. :) It's tennis! Go Rog, go! Keep it going buddy.
