Victor Hanescu became the first Romanian since Ilie Nastase to capture the title in Gstaad with a big win over Igor Andreev.
Victor Hanescu captured the Allianz Suisse Open crown in just over an hour and ten minutes with a straight set route over Russia’s Igor Andreev.
Andreev began the match at a disadvantage. His semifinal contest against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez was unable to be completed on Saturday due to rain. The Russian was forced to complete his semifinal match on Sunday morning and two hours later take the court against a different opponent in the final.
Hanescu served well throughout the match. He only hit one ace, but his first serve percentage was 71% for the match. Andreev never saw a single break point chance. The Romanian broke Andreev once in the fourth game of the first set and yet again to safely take the set 6-3.
The second set was more of the same. Tidy serving and easy holds from Hanescu kept the pressure on Andreev. A single break was all Hanescu needed to take the title. The 80th ranked Hanescu picks up 175 ranking points with this victory.
