  • David Nalbandian Into His Second Consecutive Final

    3/1/08 2:38 AM | Cheryl Murray
David Nalbandian extends his streak on clay to ten matches with a semifinal win over Luis Horna

David Nalbandian has booked another trip to a final with a straight set win over Peruvian veteran Luis Horna. Horna made a match of it for the first set. He saved four break points and hung with Nalbandian until his last service game of the set, when the Argentine finally converted and took the set.

Horna held in the first game of the second set, but that would be his only game of the match. Nalbandian's serve has been on fire all week and today's match was no exception. He crushed only eight aces, but his first serve placement was outstanding. Horna did not win a single point on Nalbandian's first serve in the second. It looked, at times, as though Horna was just wildly swinging during his return.

Nalbandian has now reached the finals of four of the last six tournaments in which he has played. His lethal backhand has fired back up and he is looking more and more like the player who demolished Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in the fall of 2007. One thing is for certain; neither Federer nor Nadal will look forward to seeing Nalbandian in their half of the draw in Indian Wells in March. Nalbandian will take on either Nicolas Almagro or Jose Acasuso in the final on Sunday.

  • Thumbs up

David Nalbandian is in dangerous form and it's nice to see him getting to the top of his game again.

  • Thumbs down

Luis Horna lost his way completely in the second set.
