A tired-looking David Nalbandian defeats the lackluster Boris Pashanski in straight sets.
David Nalbandian is tired; he admitted as much after his first round defeat of Serbia's Boris Pashanski. He still had enough left in the tank for Pashanski, but after a grueling tournament at his home tournament in Buenos Aires last week, which he won, it is no surprise that he is suffering from fatigue. This admission, so early in the tournament, probably means that the Argentine will not be around on Sunday for the Acapulco final.
Pashanski offered little resistance in the first set. Nalbandian served right at 50% for the set and still won comfortably at 6-2. The Argentine did not play well so much as Pashanski played poorly. The first and only hiccup from Nalbandian occurred in the second set. He got up an early break and was serving for the match at 4-5 when Pashanski broke. The triumph for the Serb would be short-lived, however. Nalbandian immediately broke back and proceeded to serve out the match.
Nalbandian will next play Santiago Ventura, a Spanish player ranked number 68 in the world.
The crowd in Acapulco will enjoy at least one more round with the top seed.
Pashanski could have made this a more competitive match, but his poor play allowed Nalbandian to win with ease.
