  • Djokovic dismantles Murray en route to Monte Carlo Quarterfinals

    In a matchup that is beginning to look eerily similar to Federer-Roddick, Novak Djokovic was able to absolutely destroy Andy Murray 6-0, 6-4.

    In their last two meeting, Djokovic has won easily. Both over a year ago. But now, nothing has changed. This matchup, albeit it in the early stages, can be compared to Federer-Roddick. One player that has just got a simply overwhelming matchup issue for the other player.

    In this pairing, Andy Murray is known to play junkballs and moonballs with absolutely no pace on them, especially on clay. That is complete death against Djokovic as he loves to simply move in and destroy them to the corners. And that is exactly what happened here. Far too often Murray would stand a mile behind the baseline and toss up weak balls that Djokovic would pounce on. Sounds quite a bit like Nadal's hardcourt losses, but a bit different. When Nadal plays these shots, at least he has massive topspin that explodes it through the court. Murray's ball just sit there as if wanting to be pounded.

    Both players also attempted many drop shots, 17 in total. Djokovic because of Murray wretched court position, and Murray because he for some reason loves hitting drop shots at terrible times. Murray's tactics today were absolutely despicable and will simply not get the job done against a guy like Djokovic.
