In-form Andy Murray puts on another brilliant display to crush Gael Monfils in the Madrid quarterfinals on Friday afternoon. He awaits either Roger Federer or Juan Martin Del Potro.
Andy Murray put a swift and emphatic end to Gael Monfils' recent surge on Friday, maintaining an awesome run of his own.
These were--and still are--two of the hottest players in tennis coming into this showdown, but this time it was all Murray. He crushed Monfils 6-2, 6-2 in one hour and seven minutes to reach the semifinals of the Masters Series Madrid.
Monfis' hot streak appeared to be on the way to continuing when he broke serve in the opening game of the match. Nonetheless, he gifted the break right back to his opponent for 1-1. From there Murray never looked back. He broke again at 3-2 and victimized the Monfils serve a third time for a routine 6-2 victory. A frustrated Monfils donated 15 unforced errors as the Scot peppered his forehand, a shot that had been solid all week but really started to break down.
Mofils did a nice job of changing tactics and coming into the net, but nothing he threw at Murray worked. Murray sought a true knockout blow up 2-1 in the second with Monfils serving. The Frenchman saved two break points--one after an awesome rally--but eventually sent a backhand volley long to give his opponent the decisive break. His body language already suffering, Monfils looked like an absolutely defeated man after that. Of course there was no stopping Murray regardless of Monfils' form. The No. 4 player in the world came up with two ridiculous passing shots to seize an insurmountable 5-1 lead. Murray lost focus and failed to close it out on serve, but he finished the proceedings off with a break when Monfils double-faulted.
Murray will meet either U.S. Open final opponent Roger Federer or on-fire Juan Martin Del Potro in the semifinals. He is 2-2 against Federer and 2-0 against Del Potro.

I was at this match and Murray was phenomenal! I wouldn't be surprised if he won the title. Hopefully Federer will take care of him~
