Tomas Berdych looked to halt Andy Roddick’s winning streak in their semi-final on Saturday.
In a match filled with momentum swings, controversy and missed opportunities, Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic finally prevailed over American Andy Roddick in a tight three sets. Roddick spent much of the match raging at chair umpire Norm Chryst over line calls (there was no line calling device available).
The first set fell out mostly as expected - both men took turns holding serve to force a tie break. Roddick had three chances to break Berdych, none of which he converted. The Czech did not get a sniff on Roddick’s serve. The American was better in the tiebreak and went up a set on Berdych.
The second set was not quite as tidy as the first. Neither man managed to save a break point; Berdych was broken once, Roddick twice. The American hit just five aces to Berdych’s six, and he won only one point on the Czech’s first serve.
Roddick looked as though he was going to run away with the third set. The American went up an early break, going up 5-2 at one point. He served for the match at 5-3, but he could not hold his nerve and ended up permitting Berdych to get back on serve. Roddick took the set to the tiebreak, but once again made a mess of things.
Berdych will play his second final of the season against on-fire Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro.
This match stayed interesting through-out, especially with Roddick's displeasure with Norm Chryst
Roddick seems to have increasing difficulty holding onto a lead.

We're also talking about Berdych, who hasn't been able to buy a win over a top player all year.

True, so its an upset, but its not a HUGE upset. If he beat Nadal - thatd be a huge upset.

Berdych is not among those I prefer as player, but I was more than happy, he's beaten that guy who don't know how to behave himself at the court, anyway, regarding Nadal, it won't be a HUGE upset, cause it'll never happen, he's too strong for Berdych.

Did you know that... In the beginning of 2000, Vincent Spadea lost 21 consecutive ATP matches.
