There's an odd kind of symmetry about the way the top half of the draw is shaping up. Federer now faces Mario Anic, the last man to beat him at Wimbledon. In the semis he could play Marat Safin, the last man other than Nadal & Djokovic to defeat him at a slam.

The 2nd quarter is statistically always the most open section at Wimbledon and 2008 has not failed to deliver with upsets galore in the first week. Now we're getting down to the business end of the championships and its tough to pick who will progress to the semis.

Every once in a while at the Grand Slams, the fans end up with a potential blockbuster match the first week of play. It doesn't happen often with the seeding system as it is now, but Thursday's match between Rafael Nadal and Ernests Gulbis has just that potential.

On paper Roger Federer has a tough matchup on his hands with Robin Söderling. That will turn out to be the case if Söderling keeps his head about him, but there is no guarantee that the Swede won't have a mental meltdown.

Tough 2nd round for Marcos Baghdatis, Swedish veteran Thomas Johansson has plenty of pedigree at Wimbledon. He made the semis here 3 years ago, pushing Andy Roddick all the way in a dramatic 4 setter
