Two more installments of Tennistalk's expert picks are in store for the Australian Open, starting with semifinal action on Thursday and Friday. Will Federer vs. Djokovic live up to the hype? Can Ferrer upset Murray? Make your picks in the comments section and see if you can pick it better than the "experts"!!!!
Expert standings
Kelli: 6-1 (correct # of sets: 3)
Ricky: 6-1 (correct # of sets: 2)
Cheryl: 4-3 (correct # of sets: 1)
2) Roger Federer vs. (3) Novak Djokovic
Ricky: This is the second straight Grand Slam in which Federer and Djokovic will square off in the semifinals. Their U.S. Open encounter certainly lived up to expectations, if not in quality then at least in terms of drama. This one should be both competitive and extremely high-quality. Federer and Djokovic are in outstanding form; the Swiss struggled with Gilles Simon but is coming off a blowout of Stanislas Wawrinka, while the Serb just recently destroyed Tomas Berdych. Form being equal, a major factor could be head-to-head history. Federer leads the series 13-6 and he has won three in a row at Djokovic's expense. Federer 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(6).
Cheryl: Wow, this is a really tough call. Frankly, I think Djokovic is playing better ball than Federer. Rog beat Wawrinka pretty handily, but Stan was playing so badly Fed couldn't help but look good. Nole has been solid pretty much the whole tournament. For some reason, though, I have a feeling that Federer isn't going to let Nole get the best of him this time. Their five-setter at the U.S. Open was a little nutty, with Fed's match points squandered. I just don't see him making the same mistake this time. Federer 6-4, 6-7(7), 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.
(5) Andy Murray vs. (7) David Ferrer
Ricky: Don't be fooled by Ferrer's 3-2 lead over Murray in their head-to-head series. The Spaniard has earned all three wins on clay, while Murray has won both of their hard-court encounters in straight sets, including a 6-2, 6-2 rout at last season's World Tour Finals. That said, Murray is not a terrible matchup for Ferrer. The underdog often has success against opponents who play like he does--move well, counter-punch, pull the trigger when necessary--while he can get overpowered by huge hitters. Ferrer looked awesome against Nadal (even if the world No. 1 was injured), so he definitely has a chance. On hard courts, though, an upset is too much to ask. Murray 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-3.
Cheryl: This match has Andy Murray written all over it. Ferrer's win over Nadal was a good victory for the Spaniard, but it can't be denied that with a torn muscle in his thigh, Nadal wasn't exactly at his best. Murray has been outstanding for the most part. He was a little off against Alex Dolgopolov, but that might be attributed to the Ukrainian's game being so difficult to deal with. Ferrer is an excellent returner...but then again so is Murray. The winner will be decided by whoever serves better. I say Muzza for his second consecutive final. Murray 6-4, 5-7, 7-6(3), 6-4.

You guys are even predicting the score on tie breaks!! are you involved in some kind of illegal betting racket or something? lol!
What about getting the general result right first, like djoker in straights;)
I'm not predicting anything this time.

I predicted a repeat of the USO final with Rafa and Nole, obviously not knowing Rafa would be injured, but I knew Nole would beat Roger, because Roger is not that good anymore, and if someone puts their mind to it, he is vulnerable.

alex: spot on this time, predicting or no ;) but...still keep clear of Andy, one match at a time....

I am almost ashamed of myself to be happy to see Fed's back after the debacle yest. But its a golden opportunity for Murray or Ferrer to come on the slam board

I wasn't surprised at this. Nole has been on fire and Roger hasn't been getting too many aces/free points on serve these days. As hot as Nole is he deserves the title. Would be nice for Murray ( and the whole U.K.) to get the proverbial monkey off his/their back though.

vij wins the invite to guest pick the final
mriidula also gets an invitation for getting both Djoker and Murray

Thanks Ricky but I think Vij deserves it more as he or she was more accurate. I'll post my prediction as part of the comments :)
