Expert standings
Ricky: 3-0 (correct # of sets: 2)
Kelli: 3-0 (correct # of sets: 2)
Cheryl: 2-1 (correct # of sets: 0)
(2) Roger Federer vs. (19) Stanislas Wawrinka
Ricky: Based on current form, Wawrinka should definitely have a chance in this one. He is 9-0 this season, having won the Chennai title before destroying everyone and everything in his path so far in Melbourne, including Andy Roddick. Federer has looked vulnerable, but he continues to get the job done and is also 9-0 for his 2011 campaign. Head-to-head history (6-1 for Federer) and Grand Slam experience obviously go to Federer, and it will be tough for Wawrinka to overcome those intangibles. Furthermore, it rarely seems like Wawrinka has the same motivation against his friend, with whom he won Olympic doubles gold. Federer 7-6(4), 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
Cheryl: This isn't going to be as easy for Rog as people might think. First, Stan is playing really well...as in REALLY well. I realize that Andy Roddick is no Roger Federer, but Wawa made Roddick look pedestrian. Second, Roger really isn't playing that great at the moment. The second set against Tommy Robredo was diabolical. Obviously, Roger has the record to his advantage. Stan's beaten him once in seven tries, and that was on clay back in 2009. Another point in Roger's favor is that Stan seems to think that he is unable to defeat the Swiss. All of that being said, I think Stan is playing better right now. Crazy though it may seem, I'm calling for the upset. Wawrinka 6-4, 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-4.
Kelli: Federer is a bad matchup for the resurgent Wawrinka. Wawrinka played very well in the round of 16 against Roddick, but the quarterfinal will be a monumental ask. Although the world No. 2 hasn't played scintillating tennis this week, he should step up his game against his countryman. A day match may give Wawrinka a better shot than a night match, but Federer will advance to the semifinals. Federer 6-4, 6-7(3), 7-5, 6-2.
(3) Novak Djokovic vs. (6) Tomas Berdych
Ricky: This one all comes down to which Berdych will show up; the new one that was on display for most of 2010, or the old one that resurfaced late last season and earlier this year in Chennai. Berdych has been on fire so far this tournament, annihilating Fernando Verdasco in the fourth round. We pretty much know what we're going to get from Djokovic, who is looking as solid as ever and his serve is working hitch-free. The Serb is going to turn in another solid performance, so it's up to Berdych to match him. If the new Berdych shows up, this could be the match of the tournament. Djokovic 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(5), 3-6, 7-5.
Cheryl: This is a tough one. Berdych is playing the kind of tennis that saw him into finals of Wimbledon last year.... Then again, Djokovic is playing as well as he did at the US Open. I am going to give the slight edge to Djokovic because I think that Nole is the better hard court player, but I expect Berdych to make it a hellish experience for the Serb. Their head-to-head supports my theory; Berdych's one win came on grass. The rest were hard-court victories for Djokovic. Djokovic 6-4, 5-7, 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-2.
Kelli: Djokovic has competed really well this week, having lost only one set entering into the quarterfinals. Berdych is in form as well, but the nighttime conditions will favor the Serbian star. Promises to be a great match, with Djokovic's edge in speed and defense helping him through to the next round. Djokovic 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.

@Cheryl - Wawrinka for the upset...haha
that certainly not going to happen. Nole might beat Fed but not Wawrinka.
But yes Wawrinka might just have a outside chance

Neither of them are playing well right now...it's like tennis in slow motion at the moment. A real head-scratcher.
cherylmurray , 1/25/11 3:52 AM
Lol Wawrinka just 'folded' his racquet.
smr , 1/25/11 4:17 AM
Dreadful from wawa. Hardly an effort.
cherylmurray , 1/25/11 4:28 AM
not a surprising tank from Wawrinka
on fire the entire year, then once he sees Federer, gone
RickyDimon , 1/25/11 5:04 AM
I expect Djokovic to beat Federer
Djokovic can actually win the whole thing as well. Lets see how he performs vs. Berdych
atul1985 , 1/25/11 5:18 AM
I'm trying not to believe that this was a tank, but if it smells like a duck and looks like a duck, it is a duck. How can you serve 26 aces in a match and 1 in the next.
What must Wawa's wife be thinking.............you left for this?
nadline , 1/25/11 9:39 AM
Yes... that's nice touch nadline...
But poor Wawa...all his life in shadow, and here in SWISS public relations for Fed are like avalanche... If he had won... he could easily be traitor like, in his own country...
zare , 1/25/11 12:26 PM
Lets not judge Wawa on that level.............we really dont know the 'truth' or the full story why he left his wife!!! Seems is NEVER what it seems!!
