Expert picks are back for the U.S. Open semifinals, featuring Rafael Nadal vs. Mikhail Youzhny and Roger Federer vs. Novak Djokvoic. Join in the fun for a chance to be a guest expert for the title match!
(1) Rafael Nadal vs. (12) Mikhail Youzhny
Ricky: Youzhny was a bit of a thorn in Nadal's side at times from 2006 to 2008, including in the quarters of the 2006 U.S. Open. Nadal, however, is a much different hard-court player now. Furthermore, Youzhny is coming off a five-setter over Stanislas Wawrinka while Nadal has not dropped a single set this entire tournament. The world No. 1 simply is not going to lose this one. Nadal 7-6(4), 6-4, 6-3.
vrael: Federer just has the edge over Djokovic in these BIG matches...his past record over Djokovic here in this tournament says it all. An upset might still be a possibility, but Federer is the clear favorite in my opinion. Federer 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2.
bjawad: I hesitated a lot with this, as I picked Djokovic for the title in the pre-tournament picks, but now I'm not so sure. Federer has been growing stronger in the tournament, and I'm not sure which Djokovic will turn up on Saturday. It could go either way, even 3-0 or 0-3, but I feel Federer should handle the weather conditions better and go through his toughest test yet. Federer 7-6(4), 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.

vrael , 9/11/10 8:14 AM
Of course Nole in four...
Depend what will be Fed's technic??? Will he scream on Nole parents, will he use a lot of toilet breaks, what kind of provocation he will try to de-concentrate Nole...
He will try to speed up Novak, he will serve in 3 seconds... Novak take it easy... let him stand on baseline and nervously wait for you, bounce the ball how many time you want, don't listen to his comments... and very soon his arrogance will bounce back on him.
He won't be able to believe what is going on... just don't let him use some of his dirty tricks on you...

I say Nadal in 4 vs. Youz, and Fed in 4 vs. Djokovic.
It's hard to tell who's in better shape in the Fed vs. Djokovic match, as both guys have not really had difficult matches. Joker vs. Troicki, some might say was difficult, but it was more of the Joker not getting into the match, and should have had the win in 3.
Fed's faced a top 5 player in Soderling while the Joker has not faced one top 10 player en route to the SFs.. The player I thought should have given Djokovic some problems, was Monfils, but he played like an utter clown and was a total embarassment to his coach, knowing how much Rasheed prides himself on his coaching abilities. I won't be surprised if Rasheed dumps La Monf after the USO
WOW, 9/11/10, @ 8:17 am, I hope Maxi does not read your post, as she will completely lose it and then those who think she's this great Djokovic supporter will see her true colours coming to the surface, and boiling over. Oops, now that I've said that, she might do the opposite just to prove me wrong, but I'm thinking she doesn't possess that kind of restraint. LOOL. I love these back scratching games some posters play. It always backfires at some point. I'm dying to get some laughs.

Nadal - Youzhny 6-4,7-6(4),5-7, 6-4
Federer - Djokovic 7-6(5), 6-3, 5-7, 6-4
These will be just brilliant semi-finals!!!
Colleen , 9/11/10 3:20 PM
Colleen just posted what i was thinking ... good 4 setter for fed .. but straight sets for Rafa ..
Fed will have to serve like what he claims ... at 3, 4 in the afternoon not 1, 2 in the night ... serve will be crucial ... and it will be single breaks in all sets ...
Nadal will crush Youzhny in straight sets, maybe tie-breaker in one but 3 tight sets ..
justtennis , 9/11/10 3:45 PM
fed in straight sets
6-4,7-5,7-6(7)
saxenanalin , 9/11/10 3:58 PM
I think Nole has had enough of handing it to Fed for three straight years and his brain can't take it anymore...he will be on top of his game and will be able to win this one...My pick is: Nole in 5...although one may argue that Nole stands no chance against Fed in a five-setter, yet I am going to stick to this prediction because I see 2010 USO to be exceptional in many ways! :)
natashao , 9/11/10 4:20 PM
Judging from the way Youzhny played his last two matches, I'm optimistic that Rafa will beat him in straight sets, wind or no wind. Youzhny needed four sets to take out Robredo, who in my opinion was not even outstanding. In fact that match itself was pretty boring, with both players playing a clay court game on hard court, and no one seemed able to find a way to win the point. Youzhny needed five sets to take out a wounded Stan, how then can he beat Rafa who is at the top of his game now? Unless Rafa played like crap, Youzhny has very little chance.
Nole vs Fed, I say 50-50. If Nole were to beat Fed, he has to do it in straights or in four sets, goes beyond that Fed will win. Fed can outlast Nole if everything else fails, so Nole has to do it fast if he really wants to win. To beat Fed, Nole has to serve well and wait for his chances, Fed can have some lapses at times, as he did during his match against Melzer and even Sod. If Nole fail to capitalize on these little openings, then he'll have to luck it out with Fed in the tie-breaks; poor serves from Nole, the match will be gone, unless met with equally poor serves/play from Fed.

Congratulations to all our predictors today.

It's good that both players will be fresh, otherwise if Rafa should win, they'll for ever be saying that Nole was tired.
