  • French Open Final Expert Picks: Nadal vs. Soderling

    2010-06-06 01:13:03

The stage is set, the (re)match less than 24 hours away, and the Tennistalk panel joins the rest of the tennis world in analyzing the highly-anticipated French Open final between Rafael Nadal and Robin Soderling. Make your own picks in the comments section and try to beat the experts!

    (2) Rafael Nadal vs. (5) Robin Soderling

Ricky: I would have to consult the vast history of record books before I can argue this definitively, but I would venture to say that this the most highly-anticipated Grand Slam final that involves at least one player outside the Top 5 of the world rankings. It's not No. 1 vs. No. 2 and it is not Nadal-Federer XXII, but this HAS to be the next best thing. Not only is their memorable 2009 French Open encounter still fresh in our minds, but--more importantly--these guys simply don't like each other (no matter Nadal tries to pretend).

While the blood will be bad, the tennis should be good...to say the least. In fact, this has all the makings of a classic. Soderling took out Federer in the quarterfinals and got past Berdych (who had not previously lost a set) in the semis. Nadal swept the clay-court Masters events and has not lost a set yet this fortnight. Quite simply, these two rivals are on fire. Soderling has the perfect game with which to trouble--and even beat--Nadal, but with the Spaniard at 100 percent, I really don't see how he can lose three sets on clay in a single match. With both his phsyical play and his superior mental strength, he will wear Soderling down at at the end of a scintillating clash. Nadal 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(5), 7-5.

Cheryl: Well...if it couldn't be Federer...Oh, who am I trying to kid? OF COURSE we all wanted Federer. But since we have Soderling instead, we'll just have to make do. Fortune is smiling kindly on the Swede. The weather in Paris on Sunday is slated to be rainy and in the low 70s. Not good for Nadal. Also, the last time they played, Soderling scored that big upset. Not good for Nadal.

Fortunately for the Spaniard, there are a few things in his favor, as well. First, when Soderling beat him last year, Nadal was already hobbled. He's fresh this year. Also, Soderling was just a tad above terrible in his match against Berdych, which means that his form hasn't been consistent throughout the fortnight. It's hard to pick against the Spaniard at Roland Garros - so I won't do it. Nadal 2-6, 7-6(5), 6-4, 7-5.

Kelli: If we were discussing the possible outcome of a match contested on a true clay court a la Monte Carlo, Soderling has little to no chance here. Since Roland Garros plays like a hard court with a thin layer of red dust on it, I think he'll win. The weather is supposed to be cloudy and a little cooler, which favors the Swede's power game. After an impressive win over Federer in the quarters, Soderling did not play well against Berdych. Still, I think he's got exactly the game plan to trouble Nadal. We've seen it before.

Nadal hasn't dropped a set heading into the final, but I'm not convinced he's the same player on a faster surface. If he can bypass the death trap and avoid dropping balls short, he'll increase his chances. The Mallorcan must get Soderling out of his comfort zone by forcing him to run. Should Nadal make this a physical match and push it to five sets, he'll win Grand Slam title No. 7 on Sunday. Soderling 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(4), 6-4.

isabeau77: And so the scene is set, for a battle a year in the making, between the Assassin of Kings and the greatest Clay King in waiting. In rain, cold, wind or heat, on the red dirt of Paris, where two powerhouses will do battle to settle the score, with one out to avenge his loss to the other. The avenger, of course, is none other than Nadal, whose humility and respect is to be admired, though irrespective of what this all-court champion says, blood is what he will be after, from his first step to his last. His never-say-die attitude will ooze from ever pore, with every grunt and slide; like never before he will fight for each point as if its the last, to reclaim the No. 1 ranking in the world and to become unquestionably the greatest clay-court player ever.

The man standing in his way, his nemesis and player outsider, is none other than Soderling, whose winning ugly and habit of causing upsets has become his trademark. He will attempt to pound Rafa, blow by blow, into error and submission, with deadly forehands and serves. Even with such firepower and will, I don't believe it will be enough. In the end, only one factor will distinguish the loser from the champion; this factor is what we call 'Greatness.'

Greatness in a man comes not when he has had it easy, but rather when life has really tested him, when it has brought him sadness, weakened his body and knocked him to the ground and stripped him of all that fed his soul. It is only when he stumbles to his feet and sources the strength to fight and endure that he learns "that it is not until he has been to the deepest valley that he can ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain." For this reason alone and due to greater will, the Coupe des Mousquetaires will return to home to Spain in the grateful strong arms of Rafael Nadal. Nadal 6-4, 7-6, 7-5.

Champion7: It’s Soderling versus Nadal for the title. Soderling has been a hurricane of destruction this French Open and displayed impressive form in defeating Federer and Berdych. Nadal has been equally impressive and is yet to lose a set. If both men play at their very best, this could be an exceptional match. Overall, I think Nadal has the edge. The King of Clay has more variety, more control, and far better movement.

Soderling could impose himself for a while with his massive groundstrokes, and force Nadal to play defensive, but I doubt the Swede’s ability to keep it up for an extended period of time. What’s more, Nadal has revenge as a strong motivator. If the conditions are damp, Soderling could use that to his advantage, and he surely does NOT want to lose another French Open final. All things considered, however, I consider Nadal to be the favorite. Look for both his game and steely determination to be in peak condition in this match. Nadal 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, 7-6(7).

Congrats to the Sod, new King of RG 6-4,6-7(5),6-3,6-3
Please no excuses about the weather tomorrow.

chr18 , 6/6/10 4:13 AM

No excuses at all. Rafa is not the one that has dropped sets, in these conditions, Soderling has.

Rafa has beaten everybody without dropping a set in colder, rainy condition, than what is predicted for the final. (Apart from Melzer when they had perfect warm weather).

22-23 degrees isn't cold, compared to the 17-18 degrees they were playing in during the rest of the tournament.

isabeau77 , 6/6/10 4:48 AM

its simple..
time for law of averages to set in..
so nadal will win, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3

clayking , 6/6/10 5:05 AM

welcome, isabeau (AGAIN) and clayking as the FINAL experts

RickyDimon , 6/6/10 5:22 AM

Ricky - unless I am very much mistaken, I am the writer of the last pick.:)

Champion7 , 6/6/10 6:24 AM

Isabeau77 - superb write-up. Really enjoyed reading it.

Champion7 , 6/6/10 6:29 AM

well,
how did I become a guest??
Ricky, some mistake, as champion has pointed out!!

clayking , 6/6/10 6:38 AM

clayking, I am giving you my token to be one of the guest pickers...:-)

My shot for the Golden Racket, Nadal 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

Raindrops , 6/6/10 8:04 AM

@Raindrops, i'll go one better for the Golden racket :)

Nadal 6-3, 6-0, 6-1

i just hope it isnt that one-sided though. But i have a feeling that sod will find himself way outmatched there. A GS final is a whole another beast buddy.

FEDistheGOAT , 6/6/10 8:31 AM

Nadal will win but it will be a gore-fest!!

Rafa 2-6, 7-6(9/7), 7-6(13/11), 4-6, 15-13

LOL!

rafanadalfanforever , 6/6/10 8:34 AM

nadal....3-6,6-4,7-5,7-6

vrael , 6/6/10 8:40 AM

rafanadalfanforever, why so conservative? The 5th set will go at least 40 games...

battre , 6/6/10 8:43 AM

@battre :) i'm just overcompensating for this damp squib excuse for a tournament! Wishful thinking i know.. it should be over in straights!

But wet conditions...

Rafael Nadal desperately wants the sun out. 'Yes, moist clay does slow down the court, which ought to favor the consummate clay courter of this (and maybe any) generation. The trouble for the Spaniard is that the moisture in the clay steals the court?s usual bounce, which is no small matter for a guy whose primary weapon is a forehand that rotates the ball up to 5,000 times per minute.

This was evident in the first set he ever lost at Roland Garros, all the way back in 2005 against Sébastien Grosjean in the fourth round. When the match began, Nadal easily won the first set, as the 5?9? Frenchman struggled to return groundstrokes above his head. After taking set one 6-4, though, the rains came.

Grosjean, who has the advantage of hitting the forehand in a much more outward direction than the Spaniard, started capitalizing on some short balls (and a lot of French support) to take set two by a score of 6-3. Had they continued to play in the rain, we?ll never know whether the then 19-year-old Nadal, who had never won a major at the time, would have adjusted to those conditions.

We?ll never know because the rains fell harder, forcing a stoppage in play. The next day the two men came out in dryer conditions and Nadal won the third set 6-0. He then went on to win the title. He defended it successfully the next year and then, in two particularly dry seasons, he lost just one set in 2007, followed by none in 2008'

How will the tournament end for the man from Majorca? 'The weather forecast may offer a clue. Should the rains continue, Nadal has passion and game enough to regain the RG crown he lost last year (which, by the way, had nothing to do with weather; he simply ran into a hot player who wouldn?t let him in the match).

But if the skies don?t clear up, the game?s top Spaniard will not run away with the title as he did in 2007 or ?08. He?ll have to prove his position as the heartiest competitor in the sport once more, because the weather itself will be his opponent'

rafanadalfanforever , 6/6/10 9:01 AM

Why should I make any excuse if I was actually one of those Rafans who actually wished for a Nadal/Soderling showdown? Federer/Nadal is becoming boring because Federer is like a chiwawa rolling infront of Nadal when they play on clay. Dare to argue with that then I will put in your eyes those two Hs' of the h2h between the two of them.

If I am scared with the thought about Soderling as you keep on suggesting chr18 then I should have been rooted against Soderling in his previous matches BUT I didn't, I supported him against anybody except when he is playing Nadal. I really wanted to have these two square off another match again at RG to settle something.

They will be playing the same weather condition so IT SHOULD NOT be an excuse it up to them how to adapt or adjust to whatever condition is.

And one more thing about the weather, give your best advise to Federer himself because he was the one who brought up the weather as an excuse of his loss...pathetic.

Raindrops , 6/6/10 9:10 AM

Correct raindrops. Even i supported el sod because A realxed Defending Champ fed was a real real threat! We all know history is just history! Look at fed-sod H2H and look at what happened! Rafa-Fed H2H is not as skewed as the Fed-sod one.. so h2h matters nothing at all! fed playing relaxed against rafa and rafa all tensed after no GS glory for a year would have had me and most rafans shaking. So thank god it is sod.. because with sod, the outcome at least is a guarantee!!

rafanadalfanforever , 6/6/10 9:16 AM

If Federer and Nadal had both reached the final, it would've been the eighth time the two had met in a Grand Slam final.

As it is, they are still tied for the most Slam final matches ever with Bill Tilden and Williams Johnson.

FEDistheGOAT , 6/6/10 9:19 AM

I think Fed's aura of invincibility has lost some of its lustre over the last few months. Players are starting to believe they can beat him and that is a massive blow to the monogram's ego.

The psychological dynamic at play in Fed's games has traditionally been one of borderline contempt for the opponent (from Fed) and fawning reverence coming from the other side of the net. Delpo's win in the USO and Davydenko's brace of wins has made mere mortal players (i.e. players other than Nadal) think they can beat him and has changed the dynamic. The next few months should be very interesting for it.

battre , 6/6/10 9:58 AM

rafanadalfanforever,

Rafa h2h with Federer on clay is 10-2
Federer h2h with Soderling on clay is 1-1 (I guess)

Go analyze.

Raindrops , 6/6/10 10:02 AM

@battre

Fed will again dominate on grass, all this talk of Federer's dwindling aura will again go down the drain.

atul1985 , 6/6/10 10:09 AM

Here is my prediction: the scoreline will follow rafanadalfanforever's predicition until the fifth set which will end in a 42-40 Nadal victory early Tuesday morning. Bjorn Borg and Mats Wilander will rush the court after Soderling double faults on match point to hand Rafa the win. In a heart-warming display of national solidarity, Borg and Wilander will carry El Sod from the court shoulder high, all weeping profusely.

Elsewhere, Roger Federer will call a press conference where he declares Nadal is the official GOAT and simultaneously renounce his 16 grand slam titles. Asked what he plans to do post-tennis Federer will respond that he intends to build a shack in the swiss alps and herd goats for a living. Years later, after some soul-searching, Fed will seek out Nadal to play a winner-takes-all match at altitude in a secluded Tibetan monastery. Unfortunately for the monogram, the Tibetan clay will favour the southpaw and Fed will return to the alps empty handed. Years later a plucky young journalist will seek out Fed's retreat for a rare interview. She notices each member of the Federer herd carries the unmistakable brand 'RF'...

battre , 6/6/10 10:29 AM

battre: love your comment. You've hit the nail squarely on the head - that air of contempt for opponents (even when he lost matches) has always made it impossible for me to warm to RF - but I did feel some pity for him last Sunday!

Although there was a time when he was making derogatory remarks about Rafa, in recent years he has shown more respect. And now he knows how Rafa must have felt last year.

Perhaps we will see a little less of that 'entitlement to win' approach in future.

ed251137 , 6/6/10 10:48 AM

if nadal cant win this one, nadal should retire.
he hasnt played one good complete match this entire tournament.
even against melzer he was choing in that 3rd set.

his level seems to be dropping with every match.

nadal is done.
retire!

attackingtennisrulez , 6/6/10 10:56 AM

atr: please get lost.

ed251137 , 6/6/10 11:00 AM

rafanadalfanforever,

Rafa h2h with Federer on clay is 10-2
Federer h2h with Soderling on clay is 1-1 (I guess)

Go analyze.

Raindrops , 6/6/10 10:02 AM

Actually Fed/Sod h2h on clay is 3.1 to Federer including RG 2010. Still your point is valid.

nadline , 6/6/10 11:06 AM

conditions will matter but they can only change the scoreline, NOT THE OUTCOME.

nadal - 6-4 3-6 7-5 7-6

vamosrafa , 6/6/10 11:14 AM

Kelli,
is this the same Nadal who was unbeaten at RG for 4 consecutive years, that is now the underdog to Sod who has only ever reached the final once before, and only clay title is Bastad? The same Nadal who has hardly ever dropped a set against anyone since he came on the tour, the same Soderling who was dispatched in straight sets by Almagro and Wawrinka in Rome and Madrid, and couldn't take the title in Barelona against Verdasco who was dispatched easily by Rafa in Rome? The same Rafa who was said could not win Madrid because of the altitude and whatever else, and who has won a GS on hardcourt, when Sod has never even made the final on h/c ever?

Of course anything can happen, but I find your logic amazing to say the least.

VAMOS RAFA!

nadline , 6/6/10 11:24 AM

corr.

The same Nadal who has hardly ever dropped a set ON CLAY against anyone since he came on the tour,

nadline , 6/6/10 11:26 AM

leave atr alone just this time. I know atr is trying to do the anti-jinx work here for Rafa's sake(atr is a secret Rafa admirer), as so many of us are predicting a Rafa win.

I myself will go for a Rafa win, in 3 sets: 6-3, 6-1, 6-3. Well just a prediction, so the score may not be correct, or it may look ridiculous even. Never mind about that, it may be a close fight, or it may be just three tight sets, whatever it is, in Rafa's favour.

PS: I was thinking about the match that Rafa had against Verdasco at the AO 2009, that semifinal match. It was on the hard court, Rafa's worst surface, and Verdasco was serving almost perfectly the whole match/night (except of course the two DFs at the end of the match), and he was attacking Rafa from all over the court for more than five hours. Of course Rafa then was on top form and we know the outcome of that match. Rafa survived all the bombardments that lasted for more than five hours.

On the clay court, Rafa's favorite surface, what make me think that Rafa cannot survive similar bombardments, and outlasted the Sod, who probably would have collapsed himself after all the bombardments he sent in Rafa's way. Rafa is now physically at 100% and well prepared for Sod's assault. So, I'm positive that things will go the way of Rafa.

luckystar , 6/6/10 11:53 AM

Luckystar- exactly!!!!! You're spot on! This is the final not 4 round match, rafa will hold nothing back and he will stay out there for 5 hrs if he has to. Soderling is not winning this. Rafa was never going to win RG last year with the state of his knees, even if he got passed soderling and he knew it, so losing to soderling, in my book wasn't a catastrophy. Rafa learnt more that day by losing to soderling than he would have beating him. Last year was a massive learning curve and I consider rafa graduated and ready to rumble!

isabeau77 , 6/6/10 12:53 PM

i am reminded a little from the 08 final...conditions were damp and cool before the match...nadal was the favorite and many were saying fed has a chance and atleast he will push nadal hard BUT we know what happened... yes soderling has the adv of beating nadal but i dnt think it will count here much...rafa's victory over soderling in abu dhabi was also good ( dont tell me they were tn serious becoz these 2 are almost like enemies so even an exhibition match saw plenty of fist pumping from both)

@kelli... rafa doesnt see much changes in the RG syrface..it has gained a bit fo speed but not much.

vamosrafa , 6/6/10 1:18 PM

Do you all know that Rafa was asked the question on why the big hitters are doing well this RG but not the traditional clay courters like Ferrer, Montanes, Ferrero for example; when these clay courters are doing very well throughout this clay season until RG. His answer was he felt that the court was more slippery this RG, neutralizing the good movements that traditional clay courters had; and also neutralizing the effects that 'not so good movements' had on those big hitters who were not known to move well on clay. I think that is quite interesting and I'm hearing it from the clay king himself. Maybe the rain has an effect on the clay surface afterall! I choose to believe him and I really do not want to see the unthinkable happening: that of having big hitters dominating everywhere, including on clay. That will kill tennis for me, so Rafa please, please do your best to get rid of Sod on clay!

luckystar , 6/6/10 1:33 PM

It's Rafa 6-3, 7-5, 6-3

janadevchp , 6/6/10 1:35 PM

rafa fans , please pray our man wins the 1st set because rafa's win:loss record at majors is a staggering 95-1 when he wins the first set in a grand slam !

vamosrafa , 6/6/10 1:43 PM

Rafa 7-5, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1

chlorostoma , 6/6/10 1:53 PM

vamos,
that's one hell of a stat!!
i just checked and what is impressive is he lost that one match to ferrer!!
as some would call, to his bridesmaid!!!
yes, i am praying rafa wins 1st set!!

clayking , 6/6/10 1:53 PM

Rafa fans we need to take a couple of deep breaths and accept the possibility that rafa may lose and that's ok, but also remember that it's ONLY Soderling, how Masters and majors has he won lately. If soderlings games is off the slightest and he can't smack the ball in, he has nothing to fall back on and the match may be over as quick as it starts. Please also remember that rafa will be nervous, so his start may be shaky and if it isn't soderling will have a very short day at the office

isabeau77 , 6/6/10 1:58 PM

i've a horrible feeling about this match. i don't think i can watch it

Sib69 , 6/6/10 2:09 PM

Sib69- you are just nervous. Rafa did not lose in straight sets last year and some sets went to tie brakers and rafa in tennis turns was crippled and should in no right had even won a set off soderling, but he did!!
Let's no forget that prior to his loss to soderling last year on clay he bagled and breadsticked him, if I am correct in one of the clay tournaments prior to Roland garros, so who is to say that rafa won't hand down such a beating today. Its only robin soderling.

isabeau77 , 6/6/10 2:25 PM

anyone underestimating soderling because nadal was injured last year or that he beat soderling easily in rome is just completely delusional.

soderling is better player than last year and has more confidence against the top players.
i mean the guy beat federer after federer won the 1st set.
that is a tough thing to do.

nadal will be pissing his pants, he will be extremely nervous.
the occasion, past result, opponents ability will make nadal shiver.

attackingtennisrulez , 6/6/10 2:51 PM

Isa: Aren't we all are nervous to a greater or lesser extent! btw: it was at Rome last year when RS had that ridiculous dispute with the umpire and linesmen. It will be interesting to see how he handles the situation if there are tricky line calls today.

ed251137 , 6/6/10 2:55 PM

For the moment the sun is shining at RG.

ed251137 , 6/6/10 2:57 PM

Isabeau77: that Soderling is not the same one as the one showing up today (and last RG).

I'm amazed how confident some Rafans are! You are either in denial or you know something I don't :-)

Common Rafa...time to show your true clay colours!!

remi , 6/6/10 3:02 PM

where is 'kingnadal' person?

attackingtennisrulez , 6/6/10 3:03 PM

ATR,

It's not secret as Rafa admitted it several times that he was nervous at the start of all his matches but after some few swings, the nervousness dissipates and start charging like a raging bull.

If you trust Soderling can hit the ball hard and flat perfectly like no mishit with the minimum speed of 190mph every swing consistently then he is superb but still not enough because Rafa is fast enough to catch all those supposed winners.

Raindrops , 6/6/10 3:11 PM

I AM NERVOUSS !!!! go rafa go !!

vamosrafa , 6/6/10 3:14 PM

Its only natural that we feel nervous when our favorite player is playing an important match against a dangerous player. Win or lose, we have to accept it, it wouldn't be end of the world. Rafa is still young and who says he can't win RG anymore. If he wins, all the better. Whatever will be will be, we can't control anything that is going to happen. I think for now, nothing can beat the heartbreak that we, together with Rafa, had last year. So just watch the match and hope for the best. Vamos Rafa!!

luckystar , 6/6/10 3:14 PM

VAMOS RAFA!!! RETAKE YOUr CROWN... and very wall deserved place No1!!!
Rafa in 3....yes...straight !!!

zare , 6/6/10 3:23 PM

ashamed i took the Soderling bait and actually picked him to win a set

this was so obvious Nadal would win in straights

RickyDimon , 6/6/10 5:02 PM

i want to interrupt the joy service..
i know there are some who are interested in this piece of news!!
rohan bopanna has qualifed for the main draw of halle!!
not bad deal.. :)

now let the celebrations begin again.. :)

clayking , 6/6/10 5:43 PM

I knew he would win it in 3 with all my being.

isabeau77 , 6/6/10 5:50 PM

clayking our guy defies your Law of Averages I am thinking that my wish has been granted that he'll lose a set later at Quenns hahaha.

Raindrops , 6/6/10 5:56 PM

rain,
the law of averages became lenient and said to rafa!!
"fulfill three of my conditions..
then i will postpone the "loss of set condition" for grass, where the cows rule! :P"
now rafa fulfilled the rest of 3, didn't he??

clayking , 6/6/10 5:59 PM

Congrats to the Sod, new King of RG 6-4,6-7(5),6-3,6-3
Please no excuses about the weather tomorrow.

chr18 , 6/6/10 4:13 AM

***************

Excuses????????????............. Who needs them?

Order has been restored with the best player on tour at the moment claims his rightful No 1 ranking, and he is back on his throne as the King of Clay.

nadline , 6/6/10 6:02 PM

Exactly nadline!!

remi , 6/6/10 6:05 PM

yes he is clayking. Rafa has to be caustious, a lot of grasshoppers awaiting him at the green lawn. He needs to regain Queens, Wimbledon and Roger's Cup, then US Open is quite possible now because he enters the prime zone.

Just like Ferrer The Small said: Be afraid be very afraid!!!

Vamos.

Raindrops , 6/6/10 6:11 PM

Two words: reverse jinx. :D

I'm Italian and very, very superstitious. When distracted, I tend to be the cooler around here. I figured I had to make that type of funhouse prediction, otherwise we'd have a different outcome.

Pretty sure either I've got magical powers, or Nadal is just really, really good on clay.

Kelli , 6/6/10 6:58 PM

kelli,
its the latter!!
Nadal is just really, really good on clay :P

clayking , 6/6/10 7:11 PM

Thanks for those magical powers of yours Kelli ... strong stuff Lol.

smr , 6/6/10 7:20 PM

Congratulations to the many "experts" who predicted correctly! And condolences if there's any real Soderling fans here, as opposed to the anti-Nadal few. It could have been a lot closer if Sod had converted a few of his break point chances, but Rafa's got to be the toughest break in tennis, particularly on clay. Even cloud cover could not dim the King's brightness today!!!

Ramara , 6/6/10 10:41 PM

oops, my bad. Champion7 - it has been edited!

I believe Raindrops won it. Did anyone else calculate differently?

RickyDimon , 6/6/10 11:25 PM

isabeau77, I loved your storyline. Thank you.

mara002 , 6/6/10 11:44 PM

where is chr18 and also bjawad?? pure nadal-haters and sore losers in other words

vamosrafa , 6/6/10 11:50 PM

Vamosrafa, bjawad lives in Sweden.

Chr18, Fluer, Torres9 are the pure Nadal haters. I noticed they've totally disappeared and have not been posting stupid taunts like "Sod is coming round the bend and Rafans are cying cuz they're scared". Childish idiocy from chr18 but to be expected from a scared obsessive fan. I wonder if he thought that was artistic poetry or something. Pathetic that people think by taunting Rafa and his fans their curse will actually come true!! Nice of Rafa to shut them up!

jean , 6/7/10 4:30 AM

@jean...u forgot to include tennislover.....he is more of a nadalhater...than a tennislover!!!

vrael , 6/7/10 7:55 AM

Actually Ricky, I predicted that Rafa would break serves once in the first and the third sets, and twice in the second set. I'm assuming that Rafa's opponent would choose to receive (as many of them do now, trying to break Rafa's normal routine of wanting to receive first), so Rafa would have a score of 6-3, vs 6-4 if his opponent were to serve first, and hence I predicted 6-3, 6-1, 6-3 for Rafa, instead of 6-4, 6-2, 6-4.

I did calculated wrongly though on the second set, should be 6-2 if there were two breaks of serve, 6-1 would be three breaks of serves by Rafa in the second set.

luckystar - no it wouldn't. Nadal serving first with two breaks is 6-1.

Ricky, no approach shots for this week??? :/

vamosrafa , 6/8/10 1:15 AM

vamosrafa - nope, need a rest after Wimbledon. Maybe I'll do a mid-week one. But I'm glad you're on top of things!!!! Thanks!

RickyDimon , 6/8/10 1:42 PM

Ricky you definitely need to take a break BEFORE Wimbledon!!!!!!!!!!

ed251137 , 6/8/10 2:20 PM

Ricky - clearly you need a rest, since we just had RG and haven't had Wimbledon yet.
