Expert picks continue in Madrid as we inch tantalizing close to a Federer-Nadal final
Roger Federer (1) vs. David Ferrer (9)
Ricky Dimon - I thought the un-clay-like conditions would doom Ferrer against Murray. They didn't, to say the result. As such, I think Ferrer has a real chance against Federer. The world No. 1, though, is a new man in Madrid and he looked good against Gulbis. Federer 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Cheryl Murray - David Ferrer looks awfully good in Madrid. The "almost clay" surface seems to suit his game nicely. On the other hand, he's 0-9 against Federer - and I just can't imagine that with Federer playing well he's going to post that first win here....he might get a set though. Federer 6-2, 5-7, 6-3
Kelli De Mario - Federer is a terrible match up for Ferrer, who lacks the firepower to really trouble the World No. 1. The Spaniard will be feeling less than 100% as well, having tangled with Andy Murray until early Friday morning. Unless Ferrer recovers quickly, I don't foresee a close one here. Federer 7-6(5), 6-4
Rafael Nadal vs. Nicolas Almagro
Ricky Dimon - Almagro has been on fire this week. Unfortunately for him, Nadal has been on fire over the past month and he has been doing it against much tougher competition. If Almagro couldn't beat Nadal last fall in Shanghai, he certainly can't beat him now. Nadal 6-3, 6-3.
Cheryl Murray - Almagro is playing good tennis right now - the problem is that Rafael Nadal is on the other side of the net. Almagro is 0-5 against Nadal, and given the form Nadal has shown this clay season, Almagro's chances at a win are slim. Nadal 6-4, 6-3<
Kelli De Mario - Nadal controls the series with Almagro at 5-0, which includes a trio of meetings on clay. Almagro has been playing well this week, but he's never demonstrated the consistency to win big matches like this. For him to take Nadal down on clay, he'll have to play the match of his life and keep his nerves in check. Won't happen. Nadal 7-5, 6-3
