  • Approach shots: Nadal out, Federer in search of slam No. 15

    2009-06-21 16:45:57
"Approach Shots" is Ricky's weekly look at what's ahead (or "approaching") on the ATP Tour. Every Sunday he'll preview all the tournaments scheduled for the upcoming week.

There will be a new champion at the All-England Club this year.

Well, maybe not. Rafael Nadal is unable to defend his 2008 Wimbledon title due to knee tendinitis, and his absence opens the door especially for Roger Federer.

Nobody is about to call Federer a "new" Wimbledon champion. He has won the thing five times and was just a couple of points away last summer from being the current six-time defending champion. With Nadal on the sideline and Federer sky high after winning his first French Open, the world No. 2 appears poised to take back the title (not to mention the No. 1 ranking).

Nadal's absence is without question a blow to both Wimbledon and tennis as a whole, but it also provides opportunities to not only Federer, but also every other player in the draw. With Federer back on track and Murray surging, the 2009 event is not entirely wide open, but it's close.

    Who will take advantage?

    Where: London, England
    Surface: Grass
    Points: 2000
Top Seed: Roger Federer (No. 2)
Defending Champion: Rafael Nadal (not playing)

Draw Analysis: The big story in the draw, of course, is what isn't in the draw—Rafael Nadal.

That leaves the door open for Roger Federer to win his sixth Wimbledon title and 15th Grand Slam, or for Andy Murray to become a slam champion, or—less likely—for Novak Djokovic to capture his second major.

Because Nadal withdrew after the draw had already been revealed, it also forced tournament directors to do some considerable tweaking. Juan Martin Del Potro is now at the top of the bracket and faces the same tough quarter with which Nadal would have dealt. Del Potro, still technically the No. 5 seed, could meet former Wimbledon champ Lleyton Hewitt in the second round.

Del Potro would also run into the most dangerous of the players seeded sixth through eighth in the quarterfinals: Andy Roddick. Always a force on grass, Roddick has been resurgent this year under new coach Larry Stefanki, but it remains to be seen if the ankle injury he suffered at Queen's Club is serious.

But Del Potro can't complain about getting bumped out of his previous position in the draw, in the same quarter as Novak Djokovic. Now the 20-year-old Argentine is a favorite (on paper) to reach the semis, while Djokovic now cannot face anyone seeded higher than 11th (Marin Cilic) before the semifinals.

Still, it won't be a free pass for the fourth-ranked Serb, and not just because he is admittedly a work in progress on grass. Mardy Fish's power game could make him a tough out for Djokovic in round three. Tommy Haas, who upset Djokovic to win the Halle title earlier this month, jumped up to the No. 24 seed when Gael Monfils withdrew and he is on a collision course with Djokovic for the quarterfinals.

If Djokovic reaches the semis, he will face the winner of Roger Federer's quarter. Not much needs to be said in terms of that section of the draw, as Federer now made it to 20 straight Grand Slam semifinals. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Ivo Karlovic, and (to a lesser extent on grass) Fernando Verdasco can be dangerous, but none should be able to trouble Federer at his All-England Club stomping grounds.

Andy Murray headlines what is arguably the easiest quarter of the four. Now that Nadal is also out of the way, Murray's entire draw is extremely favorable. The world No. 3 faces a relatively difficult opener against Robert Kendrick, who once led Nadal two sets to love at Wimbledon, but it should be smooth sailing for Murray after that.

All of his big-name opponents in the section come with question marks: Stanislas Wawrinka prefers clay, Marat Safin reached the semis last summer but is in dismal form, Gilles Simon is also slumping, and Fernando Gonzalez (who ousted Murray at the French Open) is not as good on grass and could be hampered by an ankle injury.

    First-Round Upset Alerts

Xavier Malisse over (18) Rainer Schuettler – Malisse has been off the tennis radar screen recently, but he should be confident after coming through qualifying. Schuettler, a shock semifinalist at Wimbledon in 2008, is slowing down rapidly in the latter stages of his career.

Mischa Zverev over (25) Dmitry Tursunov – Tursunov is coming off a title in Eastbourne, but he injured an ankle late in his clinching win over Frank Dancevic. If he is at all hobbled, the Russian will have trouble with Zverev, who owns a big serve and forehand combination.

Florent Serra over (27) Philipp Kohlschreiber – Kohlschreiber is a solid all-court player and he has been heating up in recent weeks, but Serra is enjoying his best year on tour. The favored German should win this, but it still looks close to a toss-up.

Ivan Navarro over (31) Victor Hanescu – Hanescu looks like he should be a formidable grass-court player, but the 6'6'' Romanian has actually been most productive on clay. Navarro—although also better on clay—recently made it to the ‘s-Hergotenbosch semis, crushing fellow Spaniard David Ferrer in the process.

Fabrice Santoro over (33) Nicolas Kiefer – Kiefer was not originally seeded, but he jumped in there when Nadal withdrew. He will have to be on top of his game right from the start if he wants to stick around in London for any period of time. In his last year on tour, Santoro clearly has some tricks left up his sleeve, having reached the Eastbourne semifinals last week.

Notable Momentum Builders (Players looking to continue recent good form)

Roger Federer – Won his last two tournaments, including his first French Open.

Andy Murray – Still in rare form after a breakout 2008 campaign. His Queen's Club title has London abuzz over the Scot's Wimbledon chances.

Juan Martin Del Potro – The most consistent player on tour this season outside of Andy Murray. Del Potro was one set away from appearing in his first Grand Slam final at the French.

Andy Roddick – Recorded his best-ever finish at the French Open (fourth round) and was cruising along nicely at Queen's Club before spraining an ankle in the semifinals.

Fernando Gonzalez – Has been on fire when he hasn't been injured. Gonzalez reached the French Open semis and was two games away from playing Federer in the final.

Robin Soderling – Stunning Nadal at the French Open could have been the beginning of a new career for Soderling. He also capitalized on it by going all the way to the title match.

Tommy Haas – Is showing he can still be one of the best players in the world when healthy. After reaching the French Open fourth round and taking two sets off Federer, Haas captured a grass-court title in Halle.

Benjamin Becker – Qualified for the ‘s-Hertogenbosch main draw and never looked back, winning the title.

Notable Slump Busters (Players hoping to resurrect their games)

Gilles Simon – Has been in bleak form ever since reaching the Australian Open quarters, and a minor knee injury sustained at the French Open can't help.

Marat Safin – Probably wishing he had retired after last year's semifinal finish at Wimbledon.

Rainer Schuettler – Struggling to win any matches at all this season.

Ernests Gulbis – See Schuettler. Except Gulbis has far fewer excuses due to his age (20) and talent (off the charts).

Eduardo Schwank – See Schuettler. Except Schwank is barely even winning any games. A complete collapse following what had been a promising 2008.

Fourth round Predictions: Juan Martin Del Potro over Radek Stepanek, Andy Roddick over Tomas Berdych, Andy Murray over Marat Safin, Fernando Gonzalez over Gilles Simon, Tommy Haas over James Blake, Novak Djokovic over Xavier Malisse, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga over Fernando Verdasco, and Roger Federer over Feliciano Lopez

Quarterfinals: Roddick over Del Potro, Murray over Gonzalez, Djokovic over Haas, and Federer over Tsonga

Semifinals: Murray over Roddick and Federer over Djokovic

    Final: Federer over Murray

Comments and your own predictions are appreciated!

Ricky, thanks for the approach shots. I was waiting for it for a few days :)
BTW, Tommy Haas lost to Roger Federer in 4th round(round of 16) at French Open this year, not Quarter Final.

Colleen , 6/21/09 5:44 PM

Yep, thanks. It's fixed. He deserved better than the fourth round!

RickyDimon , 6/21/09 5:56 PM

thanks for the article Ricky. But I would say that Novak's quarter is the easiest one of the four, with the execption of Haas.Apart from Haas, there shouldn't be anyone who could challenge Novak and should be in the semis with such an easy draw. However, with his recent form anything could happen,we all saw what happened in RG!

sisterofnight12 , 6/21/09 7:16 PM

cool, i like. but im picking del po over roddick, muzzah over gonzy, haas over djok, and fed over tsonga.

kaitepai01 , 6/21/09 8:38 PM

gosh ricky, you're quarter final line up looks really exciting! Let the good times roll.

deuce , 6/21/09 8:46 PM

Thank you Ricky, I want to add a few upsets alert:
First round: Gilles Muller upseting Soderling. Althougt Soderling is a momentum builder he may be slept on his laurels after reaching his first Final. And Muller is always dangerous, he beat Davyndenko last year on NY
Second ROund: Hewitt over Del Potro: Hewitt is a former champion and he is very motivated i believe, and he also beat Nadal this year, even thougt Nadal was injured it always bring up the moral. I believe that if Gulbis reaches second round, and he is playing at top form he might trouble Murray, the only problem is that he is very inmature, and thus, inconsistent.
In Murray`s half: i believe that Roddick may trouble Murray as well, I think is his chance to get to another Final, now that Nadal is out. And who knows if may even beat federer if they meet in the final
In djokovic quarter: I agree with you that Mardy Fish may be dangerous, and the grass court may favor his game style.
In Federer quarter: Ivo Karlovitz may upset Tsonga as well.
And by the way I would never count out Marat Safin, he has proven that when he is focus and not angry he can beat any player.

mdmch , 6/21/09 8:54 PM

Ricky, i'm surprised that you think Djokovic will make it to the semis. I personally have no such ambition for him!

stu , 6/21/09 9:21 PM

I get the feeling some strange stuff is going to happen over the course of this fortnight. I can't wait to see what the buzz is like around Murray's matches. I wonder if Fed will get down 2 sets again on grass? Probably not.

I think either Tsonga or Del Potro is going to break out and cause some serious trouble. Both will need to serve hot to do so.

Can't wait for tomorrow. Thanks for the preview, Ricky!

thefanchild , 6/21/09 9:34 PM

could someone, anyone, can anything be done to please light a fire under Ernests tennis talents? C'mon...ERNIE! GO LONG>>GO DEEP

Surprise you fans!

zoey234 , 6/21/09 10:21 PM

Predicting is FUN, Ricky. Agree until Qaurters but:

Delpo is a serious contender, he was unhappy with that loss to Federer at RG and his serve is montrous, he has fresh legs, smarter than he looks....Roddick is my sympathetic fave and he'll work hard to get to quartes but he's going down to Delpo.

section 2....Murray over Gonzo in a 5 set bloodbath

section 3....Nole has not been himself...Haas for the upset, sorry.

section 4....toughest calls en route to quarters, great match-ups and the hungriest dark horses; potenial early upsets. Federer will make it but it will be another battle with Soderling or Lopez and eventually Tsonga. Federer over Tsonga in quarterfinal

Semis: Federer v Haas; Murray v Delpo...

Final: .....If Feddy makes it this far....sorry Muzz, must wait till 2010

zoey234 , 6/21/09 10:53 PM

zoey234 - no. Gulbis is done.

RickyDimon , 6/22/09 2:34 AM

XD Ms.Zoey, I loves that you apologized to Murray. I completely agree though. I think Fed has the hardest draw, which is good for the other parts of the big 4 because he is by far the best grass court player.
Roddick to take out Murray, IF he survives del Potro, and again, I think Del Potro has proved the surface doesn't really seem to matter to him. o-o I expect to see him on his butt a couple of times though.

Recordbreaks , 6/22/09 2:35 AM

Ricky do you really think that Gulbis is over? never will be great? why?

mdmch , 6/22/09 2:55 AM

"Draw Analysis: The big story in the draw, of course, is what isn't in the draw?Rafael Nadal."

What isn't in the draw? It should be "who isn't in the draw." Sorry for being pedantic but really, Nadal is a person, you know.

cable , 6/22/09 6:15 AM

If I can't get Fed vs Nole for the final...gimme Fed vs Roddick!! Or Fed vs Hewitt! Or Fed vs Safin!! Let the old-timers all get together for a big ol get-together! :D :D (But why are all the 'oldies' (no disrespect intended at all mind you) in the other half of the draw??)

Realistically my prediction will be Fed vs Murray/Delpo for the final. And agreeing with Zoey...if Fed gets there (the final), he'll probably win it, despite the opponent. And yes, I really want him to recapture his Wimby title, and the fact that it makes #15 will be swell.

jyannis , 6/22/09 8:09 AM

Djoker is hard to predict nowadays. In AO2008, no one was predicting that he'll win it so I wouldnt be suprised if he's in the semis. But if he meets Fed, I think Fed will win because on Grand Slam, Fed's focus is 150% and will not miss too much shots. SF of USO2008, Fed didnt play fancy against Djoker and just let loose and killed him with 1-2 punch points.

I see a pattern in Fed's games in Grand Slam.
1st- Show his dazzling variety to make the opponent adjusting their hitting for every point and normally the player will crumble and also shocks the opponent with his placement of the ball which will make the opponent having the impression that he needs to hit accurate shots as well

2nd- If the variety doesnt cut it, use power and 1-2 punch points which is not what he is known for but he has the option to do it

torres9 , 6/22/09 9:02 AM

Thanks Ricky .......... will be funny to say that Rafa's absence will benefit Roger n e wayzzz.......I mean he was there in FO....... He was there in Madrid......n not to forget those were Clay Courts............

well...... i just have to say that .... I never go with predictions ......which r completely based on current form .........I mean the player who will play well particular on a particular match will be through ...........

And I believe Roger will give everything from his magic box to get his crown backy.......... I trust .......u trust ..........all Federians believe our H-E-R-O..........

Common Roger show us ur magic at grass again.........rule the tennis world........rule GS ..... u r a King who is born to rule !!!!

I don't think n e other player other than Roger m happy that he is predicted he winner ............

Thanks again.......

Go Roger Go..................

tomnjerry2 , 6/22/09 11:17 AM

Really shaky start for Haas....match was suspended but geesh...reworking that forecast....soderliing had less problem with mueller than expected. soderling is not resting on laurels, mdmch...he intends to shake things to SEE hightlights of match final about Gulbis. I won't ask again : (

Vamos Delpo! are the very BEST!

zoey234 , 6/23/09 1:33 AM

roddick over murray..that would be nice. then if nole somehow manages to do the impossible - make it to the semis _and_ beat roger, we would have an exciting unexpected wimbledon final - a resurgent roddick against his arch rival, resurgent djokovic!

stu , 6/23/09 4:03 AM

Nah! Roger! Roger! the FED has it. He is (feeling) ON TOP of the world (right now)! Less pressure, MORE fun! Ey Zoey! Let's dance! LOL Nah, nah, nah nah, hey , hey hey... Fabulous! Just Fabulous! Next stop Guillermo Garcia-Lopez... :)

sky , 6/23/09 4:44 AM

mwah! sky

Hewitt looking cos Ginepri so injured or... Congrats Hewitt

zoey234 , 6/23/09 5:06 PM

hey zoey and sky! get ready for the fed tomorrow against Lopez......
C'MON! are the best indeedy....!

Allez Federer! strange walking around wimby close proximity to the fed...whereever he was....walked passed meltzer...(hot!).....just such a wonderful atmosphere....and so packed...i know that some of the seats were empty in the stadiums...but what happened was that some people came in the breaks...presumably after wandering around and seeing other matches...i kept my eyes peeled...for 'the rodge'.... but alas....he was too busy!

malteser1 , 6/23/09 10:25 PM

Malty!!!! Welcome back!!! Getting myself "ready" for tomorrow's game with the FED! Wow!!! Tomorrow, tomorrow... Go FED go! Go FED go! LOL :) I will be at work, but with you guys in SPIRIT TOTALLY!!! Go FED go!!! Go FED go!!!

sky , 6/23/09 11:42 PM

Malt..the ESPN announcers were mentioning that Sam Querry had tweeted, "practiced with Fed" and saying how cool, what a great experience to remember for a young Querry to be practicing with Fed!

So happy for you...

been getting arranging schedule so I get tomorrow am off and we'll see.....believing in Friday morning....I know, one match at a time...if fed gets thru Lopez...he'll get thru round 3 easily cards say Robin Hood b waiting in round 4. Soderling looked solid on grass...he has been waiting for this moment in time. I mean Granollers, is cute he a clay courter? cards say Robin can take him will be tougher than the RG final, if Rog meets Robin in round 4.

zoey234 , 6/24/09 3:36 AM

I have to hand it to the ESPN2 announcers in the respect and admiration they are showing towards Rafa. Chris Fowler, Mary Carillo and Brad Gilbert made no secret how down they were about Rafa's withdrawal and said the tournament would not be the same now. Even JMac said he felt "sick to his stomach" when he heard that Rafa withdrew. Darren Cahill said that if anyone can come back stronger than before, it will be Rafa! Also was a very nice, moving montage they did for Rafa.

fan4tennis , 6/24/09 6:37 AM

yes...we know fan4tennis....can we rest with the topic tho'......and just get on with the tourny...if this were the would be the first person to be on here whooping our asses about's just getting boring now....
it seems that you are now supporting murray....(I don't think for any other reason than to annoy those who don't support murray...know what i mean?......)...

zoey...there is nothing to worry about here except your own belief in the fed honey! Honestly...i watched the record of his match with Lu...he is in fine form..................w-o-w...when he plays off court (when the ball is right in the corner...and fed has to go off court to hit it...) is soooooo beautiful to watch...he is just try not to forget that.......even the commentators are in awe when they give their own views on tv...fed is......... m-a-g-n-i-f-i-c-e-n-t....

Love to you zoey......just keep ignoring everything else other than visualising our man going through the by game...he is a j-o-y to watch.......

a j-o-y!

Allez Federer!

malteser1 , 6/24/09 7:32 AM

Nadal being out of the tourney is part of the heading of this thread, therefore what I have posted is fitting for this thread.

I support Murray because I happen to also like Murray and have always said that in the past and has nothing to do with someones else's needs or wants. I rooted for Nole yesterday and Murray today because I like both players. I am sure that most posters who know me know that I am sincere in my support of Murray and Nole, in the absence of Rafa.

fan4tennis , 6/24/09 7:38 AM

yeah...the thread says....'nadal out'....and there are plenty of others fft to get your teeth into except droning on about the same go on and if this was federer fan4tennis what would YOU be saying to the fedfans.....(or rather know what you would be saying....) we are day three of the tourny now and you are still going on about his is just genuinely boring now....why don't you write to rafa and offer him your condolescenes as you seem to be the expert on tendinitis fft....perhaps you could become a doctor?

i am not so believing of your intentions of murray however..and neither should you care....i expected this sort of retort from you because you can be crotchety at the best of times when someone disagrees with you....and you know it...

and when you go on about murray bringing it back for the hometown crowd....are you a British descendant or something? As you don't come from the UK (i am presuming FFT...) can you talk about the 'hometown' crowd....if you were part of the 'hometown' would know that there is a divide as to what the british public the fact that many millions of people who live in the UK support Roger perhaps you shouldn't be so presumptious seem to be the oracle on rafa's injury...murray's fact perhaps you were an historian in a previous life with the history of the UK.....

so if you are also an ardent fan of Nole...why so quiet about him right now?

I wouldn't describe you as sincere FFT..even though you see yourself as that.....couldn't be further from the truth.....

Allez Federer!

malteser1 , 6/24/09 10:05 AM

Malt...if Seppi wins tomorrow my predictions for R2, sections 3,4 of draw will produce a first time ever 100% from this lava lamp and I quit day job to shock and horror of family. moving to Vegas

Delpo over Hewitt... :)
Lefty Zverev over Petzschner, the guy who resembles Russian assasin in Bourne Supremecy ??
Ferrer over Fognini... :)
A-Rod over.....anyways.. most picks are easy for tomorrow except:

PHM v Berdych...I know it should be for Berdych. Paulo gonna win
Jesse Levine over Cuevas go Jesse
Santoro's last stand losing to Fererro :(

zoey234 , 6/25/09 1:14 AM

Hi Zoey...tell you what girl...some c-r-a-p being written about fed by AZY.....on the nadal injured knees thread...pathetic trashers.....why do some of them have to use rafa's injuries as a reason for fed winning..i could say a lot more..but am NOT gonna waste my breath on them...not worth it... moving to vegas? seriously? why?...

tennis is all good..the fed is moving through game by game...healthy respect for all players with no under-estimation......

Fed is just focused right by game...just the way i like not listening to others who want to think's not in my psyche right now...pure visualisation......

catch you later lovely....

Allez Federer!

malteser1 , 6/25/09 11:22 AM

No, plan to move to Las Vegas. Making a joke about my rookie predicting. I do have a lava lamp but no crystal ball. Tennis is not much of a topic in Idaho...but I try my best to make it one!

this thread is about predictions right? Nice to have one NOT about Rafa being out , injured and more to the tournament than Roger winning #15 or not.

Big excitement today is the Delpo v Hewitt match, Delpo better win or I lose my reputation.
up early this morning to listen to Berdy v PHM...sounds like PHM is going down.

the match all England awaits should be a cake walk: Muzza v Gulbis

Malt, lots of my faves play today: Simon, Gonzo, Ferrer, Davy and your new crush Melzer...all of whom I picked to win today

Cheers.....our man playing Kohlschreiber tomorrow.

go Feddy go!

zoey234 , 6/25/09 2:25 PM

hey oh my....'our girl' carrie is coming out to play on the other thread...disrespecting the fed...i knew it wouldn't last...and of course its okay for her to post rafa threads on fed threads...but not when its the other way comes out with soooo many excuses......

anyway..back to the tennis....

zoey...your man is out...delpo...listened to it on the radio coming home...will watch the highlights tonight.....

this has got me thinking/wondering....delpo said that Hewitt was his 'all time' role model as he was growing up..and that he was 'in awe' of him....i wonder when players say too many things to the press...hewitt would have analysed his game...would have known what delpo thinks of him...gone on to that court all guns ready and killed him on court with this 'awesomeness'........

i think perhaps delpo did not play his best and was too much in awe of hewitt...perhaps was a little bit too relaxed......being seeded no. 5.....and thinking perhaps that hewitt was 'over?'....i always think the earlier rounds are dangerous...everyone has to stay on their guard.........

our tennis channel over here...commentators said. delpo...only 20 (love him!)....will only get better over the next 2 or 3 years.....and so will take a lot away from this match...that they saw how good he was on the court...but that he has time...being the youngest player in the top ten..... we move on to the fed......i cannot imagine that after today (with delpo going out)...that fed will underestimate a-n-y....p-l-a-y-e-r out there...and when i saw his interview yesterday when he talked about only concentrating on the earlier rounds and getting through those games/matches first....before he starts thinking ahead..that there was no point ..............that he would do his best and look to come up with the goods......a solid strategy from federer...zoey.....solid...sweet....

so he will be analysing Kol's game today.....and will go on court tomorrow....knowing that he.....(fed)..... has the shots...just gotta focus on his game and make sure that he comes out all guns blazing...that way....all should be good for the fed....Kols is a great player....knocked out djoker in the French...has the game....but the fed is strong and we have to remember that..mentally he is tough and he wants to win! it just goes to show tho' that there is no room for having a 'bad day at the office'......

Allez Federer!

malteser1 , 6/25/09 5:49 PM

Malt C`MON Honey!, Rogers record of 20 straight semifinals has a reason, HE knows how to do it, he never understimates an opponent, when Roger is at his best, the only way to beat him is by playing excesively well and even doing so, is almost impossible to beat, even for Nadal, like when he beat Del Potro on AO, or RG final, when Sod had no chance of doing anything, Fed will get to semifinals with only straight sets wins, Remember, He only lost one game on grass on the last 6 years, and it was the greatest match of all time, 5 sets, 9-7 on the last set....
I knew Hewitt could upset Del Potro, remember that he use to be number 1, and is one of the few ex champions who is actually playing, the other one is Fed, so there are only two ex champions ( correct me if I am wrong) now on the tournament. I believe Hewitt will get far in the tournament, facing Roddick on Quarterfinals. Murray`s match hasnt started yet, but i think it would be a difficult one for Murray, he`s got extra extra pressure from the loudest and most sensacionalist media of the world, he british. And Gulbis is very very talented, he could be top 10 if just grew up a little, and care more for his future. Zoey, darling, i am sorry to disagree with you but tomorrow i will see a Fish eating serbian traditional food. Remember that Fish beat Federer last year, unfortunately he lost to Djokovicsm the following match, I guess he was just happy to have beaten Federer. But now is different, his serve is huge, and I believe that wimbledon is a tournament for the more matures of the tour, Guys who were born on 1980, 81, 82, will get to semifinals. My prediction for semifinals is Roddick vs Hewitt. Federer vs...?, if Fish wins tomorrow, I believe he will get there, if not, My bet is on Haas. Watch Out Murray!

mdmch , 6/25/09 6:30 PM 100% behind the fed...the man of the moment...the man of history...the! are the wise 'old' owl of the forum mdmuch.....suited to perhaps counselling both fan4tennis and carrie....the witches from eastwick.....who have nothing good to say about unsportsmanlike....

Federer is a champion and always will be.....i think you are right about the ex champions comments (in terms of past slams at wimby)...but roddick has come close....just lost to fed in the finals...i think of 2? but will check.....

Roger just needs to play his game and watch his opponent to work out the game plan for tomorrow.......

mwah malt! you are a shinning star babe. Handling all manner of crap with humor and style. I don't have a pass to play until....well after wimby. Home watching coverage and.... my man delpo is gone with my local reputation as bookie lol

so....missed on 3 matches: Berdie over PHM and Petzschner over Zverev but really had no idea who they were.. : ) if you have time take a gander at Petzschners picture.. and tell me what you think. He looks like trouble, Malt.

mdmch...shoulda listened to you. retooling my picks for top half as I watch coverage

zoey234 , 6/26/09 12:17 AM

Malt...the picture of Petzschner im referring to is on the Wimby 'players' site. The one I just saw of him on ATP is totally different! Look him up under players on Wimby site if you have time. xx

Taking into mind mdmch thoughts ....h2h really does not mean so much, it's worth a look is weather forcast, lol

going with Andreev, Verdasco tobasco, Robin Hood, and Federer, of course malty

tough calls on Cillic v Haas....mdmch, wavering on your advice cos the young Croatian can serve and move; he proved himself CHILL on the big stage. Time is for Haas luck to change but picking Cilic and you can laugh, go ahead :)

Robredo over Dudi :(
Tsonga over Karlovic ?? very unsure tho
Gonna need to depart from you again, the Fish is food for Serbian
Nole over Fish....uh...not sure of it at all. Not at all sure of this half as the top half

zoey234 , 6/26/09 12:48 AM

malteser1 , 6/26/09 7:17 AM

You got that right Malty! :) the FED was IMPRESSIVE today! Loved his game Plan and Execution! It will be fun to see him play Soderling on Monday. the FED is sooo "HOT" right now! It will be very difficult for anyone to sweep him off his game. I don't believe there is a candidate in Wimbledon 2009, that will out smart and out play Roger right now. Let's see what happens. Let the next game (with Soderling) begin. :) C'MON Roger! One game at a time my man. YOUR the "ONE"! Your the MAN! You Rock!

sky , 6/26/09 11:35 PM

morning' sky......

you are a TRULY FANTASTIC FEDFAN sky....there was nothing said in fed's interview about his slippage on court yesterday and i didn't see i guess it must have a minor slip as otherwise surely....the interviewers would have said something and he would have answered the question? what i did hear was that soderling during his match had to call the doctor out...tho' not sure what the reason was...but it couldn't have been that serious as he carried on playing and then went on to win the match.....

so....we look foward to monday against the sod.......roland garros all over again! should be fun!

Just loving the fact that roger is under the radar right now and not under estimating any one......pure focus for our man....

Allez federer!

malteser1 , 6/27/09 8:48 AM

Thank you Malty! :) "you are a TRULY FANTASTIC FEDFAN sky...."

Nice/BEAUTIFUL compliment! LOL Just as "YOU" are! (Malty) :) How can we help ourselves! Roger Federer is the "GREATEST" tennis player of ALL time. He is the "ONE"! It is an HONOUR "and" a PREVELIGE to be a fan of such a MAGNIFICANT "and" MAGICAL persona, and tennis player. He is a "STAR" of HEAVENLY properties... Not unlike Micheal Jackson, he has made and continues to makes millions of people happy. :) Roger! Roger! ROGER! He will continue to make us proud Malty! He will continue to make us proud. Another AMAZING opportunity is before him... One game at a time. One point at a time Malty. Aller Roger! Aller! Go FED go! Cheers FEDfans! CHEERS!

carrie , 6/27/09 4:55 PM

carrie...i was just wondering why the hell would we be interested in whether rafa buys a house in Ibiza? what has it got to do with tennis? Boring and irrelevant.......i just think it is a really odd post?

Sky....where is zoey...our homegirl? Zoey...come out to play! I want to talk to you! You are truly missed today by me!

Zoey...i looked at you asked......currently playing hewitt where hewitt has match point......he is (hewitt) playing unbelievable tennis right now!

I've never seen Petzschner before either....plays for Germany...will have to check out his stats.....but Lleyton Hewitt is................... l-o-o-k-i-n-g.......g-o-o-d! and just won the match!

Also great is roddick playing right now? he is on a high..high...high!...highest serve of the game so far 137mph! Big serve...big forehand! He has his sights set zo! set high!

So meltzer is now 2 sets down and roddick is up 1 game to love in the third set! what do you think of his do you feel about A-Rod homegirl!

Come out to play now please! am in now for the rest of the day/ will be checking in every now and again!

Mwah Zoey.....we march on T-O-G-E-T-H-E-R!

Allez Federer!

malteser1 , 6/27/09 5:47 PM

come out to play Zoey! where are you?

malteser1 , 6/27/09 6:17 PM

What has Federer's baby got to do with tennis????????????????

This is just some news about what Rafa is doing whilst he is recovering from his injury. You can go on wondering all you like, Rafans would be interested to know that he is at least enjoying life with the diasppointment of not being able to defend his title at Wimbledon.

carrie , 6/27/09 7:02 PM

Malteser, wind your neck in. You are not a moderator on this forum, and you are behaving as if someone asked you to police it.

If that article is irrelevant to this forum, so are Federer's thoughts on Michael Jackson.

carrie , 6/27/09 7:17 PM

malt sweetie, mwah! i traded work/call days so could have Fri, Fed tennis day off. Only home for lunch, 1145

In an attempt to keep this thread about predictions rather than a rafa/ roger thread....must tell you how THRILLED I am that Haas won, though I picked the talented amazing Cillic to win but Haas is simply class personified and at 31, I am really pulling for him!

Also see slamtracker has Simon winning today! Flunked on that pick too. But simon has been slumping.

Yay, my homeboy made it through...knew that was gonna be tough.

Anyway, wish I could stick around but must check on somr patients.

Must rearrange the picks....yes, peltschner, I think he's good looking on the wimy web.....tough dude tennis player too but Hewitt is through and Murray (hate to even mention him) has had a princess draw so far ...he'll not really be tested until Hewitt which makes murray's ranking valid but it gags me when he is playing, the commentary is sickening....I mean when he wins troiki today they'll present him will a NOBEL PRIZE, for the love of God!!

no worries the thread really quick....hope to catch you here manana!mwah xx

zoey234 , 6/27/09 7:51 PM

Carrie...i think you take the position honey for Rafa's caretaker and also wind your own neck in...what a weirdo thing to case you hadn't noticed.....i didn't write the michael jackson was perhaps you ought to take it up with him princess carrie? actually carrie.....being as you like to claim the work of others without quoting them....why don't you claim that YOU really wrote the michael jackson thread and take the credit for it...your great at that princess....

Zoey....G-R-E-A-T to hear from you........i know exactly what you mean about the commentary on murray...i did mention it to you a while just gets worse....he is the golden boy here in the uk...but that's fine zoey...cos everyone else....(including roddick, haas, hewitt) are all under the radar....and so is fed.....he warranted a paragraph in the paper yesterday....murray had a two page spread...he even made it to 'torso of the week'...honestly...he is E-V-E-R-Y-W-H-E-R-E right i do understand how you feel.....

Even Johnny mac is gushing......which is kinda of a shame....but we just gotta live with keep cool babe.....i mentioned to another tennis fan friend of mine about the commentary you mentioned i think it was on ESPN....? that they were so disrespectful as fed when he vultures i think you said...even he couldn't believe that they would treat someone of fed's calibre that way...but as you know...not everyone supports his style and bollocks to them......

I'll catch you later zoey....take it easy.....

malteser1 , 6/27/09 8:08 PM

I like your new name - maltosser!!

I have no objections to the thread on Michael Jackson, I was observing that you did not find it irrelevant to tennis. You, however, contaminated the thread by writing about other things on it as usual. You just go onto any thread and write your usual incomprehensible thoughts on any and everything as long as it has the word Federer in it, you are so obsessed with him - Mirka watch out-Maltosser is about.

You don't like to hear anything positive about Nadal, that's your problem.

carrie , 6/27/09 8:37 PM

Thank you and I agree carrie! Tennis is not just ONE player... there are many and they can be talked about too since ALL of them are mentioned in Ricky's Approach Shots! Many people DO miss Rafa not playing at Wimby! Many people want to see Murray take the crown this year!! Many want a Murray-Nole final!!! And who knows if Roddick will find a way to insert himself into it!!!

fan4tennis , 6/27/09 8:44 PM

I would also love to see a Djoko/Murray final, that would be brilliant.

carrie , 6/27/09 8:48 PM

That would be great carrie but I will be torn as to who to cheer for since I like both players! Like deuce said, I may have to be cut in half for that final--lol!

fan4tennis , 6/27/09 9:53 PM are soooo entertwined with congratulating each other all the time that i actually vomited tonight.......both of block whatever positive comments i make about rafa...that's your loss and your saying nothing more on the behave like silly little are 50 years old fan4tennis and carrie...i reckon....18 years old? mother and daughter...enjoy congratulating the barbed comments you share guys....carrie we had this have on more than one occasion...i counted.....13 actually..posts from you on the fed threads talking about rafa and very clearly said earlier that you would be doing its one rule for you and none for anyone are priceless....

malteser1 , 6/27/09 10:26 PM

Oh well carrie. Guess us "silly little girls" will keep on talking tennis (OOPS...that IS the name of this site....tennistalk!) while others just post insults with no intention of talking tennis.

Murray thrashes Troicki

June 27, 2009, 07:54 PM |
Andy Murray marched into the second week of Wimbledon, with a consumnate 6-2 6-3 6-4 victory over Viktor Troicki, in front of yet another packed Centre Court audience. The Scot had produced magnificent tennis in his second round encounter with Ernests Gulbis, a display which had further enhanced his claim to the title. However, he didn't need to be anywhere near his sharpest to etch out his twelfth victory in fifteen matches at the All-England club, but it was impressive nonetheless.

Troicki was playing on Centre Court for the first time, and unfortunately for the Serb, the fact was glaringly obvious. His unorthodox service motion was restricting his effectiveness on his own serve, with Troicki committing a catalogue of double faults. The thirtieth seed was also looking tense in the other aspects of his game, and Murray exploited it with surgical precision, floating slice after slice to an increasingly despondent Troicki who continued to misfire. Murray broke to lead 4-2 in the first set and then pounced again to seal the double break and the set.

The British number one looked untouchable on his service games, showing a lethal mix of pace and variation. Murray was broken twice all week at Queen's Club, and has brought his formidable serving rhythm through to nearby SW19.

Murray was never in danger, and it showed in his relaxed, effortless nature of play. There was an overwhelming sense that the world number three could simply break at will, a dangerous sign indeed for the others in the draw as the tournament enters its latter phases.

Signs of rainfall were the only hindrance to Murray as he blazed through set three. As the court maintenance team gathered at the side, bedecked in green, Murray accelerated his play, firing down ace after ace to confirm the win, in rapid fashion.

The third seed will face Stanislas Wawrinka in the last sixteen. Wawrinka is a close friend of Murray, and is a technically astute player, but feels most comfortable on slower surfaces. Murray turned in one of his best performances in 2008 against the Swiss, dismantling him in straight sets at the US Open.

With Murray cutting through the draw with an iron fist, who would bet against a similar scoreline when they meet on Monday?

fan4tennis , 6/27/09 10:55 PM

Ricky, I have not whinned to you before but is there any way to make this a thread for upcoming matches and predictions not post match articles and commentary/discussion unrelated to future matches? Lengthy editorials cut and pasted are appreciated on other threads but it is annoying. Maybe the lengthy editorials could be nicked to a thread for: "Approach shots for lengthy articles and comments having little to do with upcoming matches or predictions."

Or.....suggest the entire article not need be posted only the link to article for interested readers.

Thanks .....just a suggestion

zoey234 , 6/28/09 2:34 AM are your picks working out? Loved what you wrote on the Fed v Kohl thread. Will reply on that thread to you directly. thx

Here is what I think will go down on Monday....faint of heart do not read!

Haas over Andreev......your b-day theory mdmch is as good as any!

I was right about the Serbian eating Fish tho...

Nole over the diminutive but forever fiesty Sela....can't believe Nole's luck so far for match-ups. Nole in straights

Dr Ivo rules with unreturnable serve over Verdasco in 4

Soderling over Federer in 5 sets.....overly active imagination still feels pain in back.....and Feds serve not be mad Malt....lava lamp been wrong b4

zoey234 , 6/28/09 2:49 AM

Ricky, I have not whined to you before but is there a way to keep people from posting character assassinations as malteser has done SEVERAL times in this thread or should we allow that instead of tennis related articles? OOPS...... I guess that is allowed since no moderator has ever stopped it and her friend whines about a tennis related article!

fan4tennis , 6/28/09 2:56 AM

Mwah malt and sky....just really tired of all the hype surrounding Wimby 2009 in Brit press, ESPN commentary....forever turning every Murray match and Fed match into a seminar on how great Murray is and how Murray can beat Federer by Ptrick pimp MacEnroe, Brad loser Gilbert and heartily seconded by Dick Engburg or whatever his name.......arrrrrrrrrrrgh

picks for top half of they play Tuesday?

Hewitt, ironman over Stepanek in 4 :)

all matches from here on out except Murray v Wawrinka and Nole v Sela have 5 set potential as everybody has reason to BELIEVE

Berdych over Roddick in 5 :( homeboy goin down to lit up Berdy with a new head screwed on right

Murray over Wawa in 3 maybe 4 :(

Fererro over Simon in 5....Simon is wearing tape on knee but he looked good, watching highlight ...this one is tough to call , I LOVE Simon...ok changing mind on whim....

Simon in 5 and he gonna gut it out.

zoey234 , 6/28/09 3:15 AM

morning' ricky.....

ricky....please could you have a word/send a warning to FFT...she is behaving extremely irresponsibly...she is the ONLY ONE posting unrelated articles on threads that have nothing to do with the is a post from her showing that she is doing it on purpose.......I posted an article for the fedfans a while ago...which included what Soderling said...Kohlschreiber said and it was TOTALLY your article....i posted it for the fedfans......fft seems to have taken issue with that......she is a fedhater ricky...has NOTHING nice to say about federer...neither has Carrie......who has now resorted to also calling me Maltosser....(smile)....

because fft HATES federer with a passion...she is spoiling it for the fedfans because she is so upset that rafa is not playing in wimby.......if you see all the messages of support from the fedfans for the will see how supportive we have all been.....fft continues to live by her own rules and blames others.....

this is what she wrote showing that she is doing this (posting murray/troiki....roddick/pez..? posts... with intent to annoy all fedfans so much so that rafterfan has commented...

Quote: No rafterfan, I am not bored. I am trying to show how annoying it is to have crap written all the time on threads it does not belong to as someone is so good at doing! Until she respects a threads content and keeps it on topic, with no character assassinations, then scroll away!

carrie is also doing the same ricky....could you have a word?!

secondly.....cheryl....ricky.....whilst i do actually smile when this comes up....homos, posmatrac...danny...and now carrie.....are using MALTOSSER as my is as i have emailed TT before......about is these posters who continue to do this........and continue to attack.......please could you have a word if you are able to read this post.......

Back to the tennis......

zoey.....stop listening to all the haters out there....girl...C'MON! Fed will be fine against soderling...he will keep the focus and move through the match......have some faith girl! ......or DONT watch the match!

Allez Federer!

malteser1 , 6/28/09 8:08 AM

About warching Murray and Federer matchesm Malteser...if I watch Roger, I won't log on to TT. I absolutey detest the coverage and never imagined this coverage would lower standard to resemble boxing, a sport I expect smack and trash, sorry day for wimbledon, this. I'll just go to golf where at least ESPN and others don't trash Tiger or invent cheap drama at the expense of dissing a legend to what? Influence minds and win fans? Defininitely will not watch a miserabel Murray match.

I love you Malt and still love tennis. When it comes to womens tennis and matches other than Murray or Federer the coverage is okay. Not great for the Nole match cos they end up taking smack on Fed there and Murray this, Murray that...and interrupting an otherwise good Nole match. Fire them all and get new unbiased talking heads!

Looking forward to all matches on Monday, especially Haas v Andreev and Verdasco v Karlovic

I respect you not want to send you negative vibe during match. I get it

zoey234 , 6/28/09 12:09 PM

hello hello federites ....
zoey need to get ur head screwed on straight . how could you ....oh how could youu ... :)
I hope you are wrong bout fed zoey ....he will prevail .....soderling has never been a problem for him . i believe it will be a hard fought battle ...but i trust he will come through for us ..

C'MON !!

fedexfan , 6/28/09 12:37 PM

darling zoey.....

read the following preview posted on the wimby homepage....I cannot tell you how to feel lovely...that is for you to deal with...what I can say tho' is that you had your 'wobbly moments' at the FO..and look what happened! So by all means...can i suggest you work on the positive side of your wonderful mind...cos it is 'rapier sharp', intelligent, interesting poster...always been...always......i love you to bits zoey...i really are FABULOUS lady! FABULOUS!

just think about watching match tomorrow and say...fed has nothing to lose? He is ALREADY THE CHAMP honey...THE CHAMP!....C'mon girl! Our man needs his fans positivity sending their way to his racquet! His racquet will then do the talking and he will do the dancin'! c'mon girl! The fed is D-R-I-V-EN.....he made it very clear A YEAR AGO that he would be back to reclaim his crown! He performs best under pressure....but he is NOT under pressure in terms of grand slam titles....he just wants to play for the LOVE of the game...he got NOTHING TO PROVE TO NO ONE...and I much rather believe in him and his g-l-o-r-i-o-u-s................................. t-e-n-n-i-s.......wouldn't you? he is NOT even ON THE RADAR right now...just gotta play free n' flowing sky E-N-J-O-Y..the match tomorrow.....just be.....tomorrow zoey....fed is playing FIRST tomorrow on court...centre let's just get on with the job!

Preview: Federer v Soderling

Saturday, 27 June 2009
Written by Byron Vale

Last year?s Wimbledon rematch of the French Open Final took place on the final day of The Championships. It was a match that upset the tennis world order and things haven?t been the same since. Rafael Nadal?s victory ended Roger Federer?s five-year domination at the All England Club, and it set in train a series of events that led to Nadal usurping Federer as the world No.1 and much more.

Monday?s French Open final rematch between Federer and Robin Soderling could upset the tennis world order even more...but only if Soderling wins. Since winning at Roland Garros and given his serene progress through the draw so far, Federer is being inked in by many as the 2009 champion.

Federer has never lost to the Swede in 10 encounters but, then again, Soderling knows something about springing a surprise. To reach the French Open final, he became the only man ever to beat Nadal at Roland Garros.

?If you asked me before Paris, I would say he's definitely more dangerous on grass than on clay, but then you saw all those great matches he played in Paris and you're worried, too,? Federer said.

?So he's definitely proven his point that he's a good all?around player. I haven't actually thought about the match at all yet. But I think it's going to be interesting to see how he's going to enter that match after coping with such a long tournament in Paris and see how fresh he still is. But I've played him here in the past, and I've played him on grass a few times now.

?I've had success against him, but I know the danger because he hits extremely hard.?

This is uncharted territory at Wimbledon for Soderling, who will take heart from having beaten Nadal at the French Open.

He said: ?Maybe it's the same challenge. It's very tough to beat Rafa on clay, and it's as tough to beat Roger on grass. But I made it once. We'll see. It's going to be a tough match, for sure.?

Soderling has never made it to the fourth round of Wimbledon before, but until Paris three weeks ago, he had never been in the final of an outdoor tournament. If the roof is closed over Centre Court and Soderling is technically indoors, could he upset the tennis world order again?

Fan comment:
Id like to say Federer in 3 but Soderling has been playing good tennis for the past 6 weeks so ill say Federer in 4 sets. Minus his lapse in concentration on Friday Fed has been near perfect, looks to be back towards his very best form. I think the battle could be won or lost before the match is even played, a 10-0 deficit including the straight sets defeat in Paris a few weeks ago will certainly be in the back of Soderlings mind.

Zoey...fed is playing.......... B-R-I-L-L-I-A-N-T......... T-E-N-N-I-S..............YOU got nothing to lose honey by supporting this.....okay?

Allez Federer!

malteser1 , 6/28/09 2:57 PM

Mwah malt, I take all you critique of me seriously but in good nature cos I know u r trying to like me, lol.

much appreciated. And let me assure you in the real world my rapier is sheathed, unless protecting the defenselss and maybe one or two scenarios where called upon to be an advocate!

Appreciate the above match preview too but on this thread...well I will comment my predictions and reserving right to predict here ....might not be to your standard for a Fedfan. But totally do not wish to spread doom and gloom over entire forum. So, I may not be aboard for tomorrow Soderling v Federer match. And working on stoppage of my bitching about Murray and coverage. Friends and family find it all amusing when I go off but this is serious tennis here...must find a sock for it!

okay...I like predicting sport malt even tho it is dicey bizness

Hi Fedexfan, mwah!

zoey234 , 6/28/09 7:55 PM

"ricky....please could you have a word/send a warning to FFT...she is behaving extremely irresponsibly...she is the ONLY ONE posting unrelated articles on threads that have nothing to do with the thread"

Ricky, the articles I posted were about people that malteser had ALREADY POSTED COMMENTS about in that thread!

fan4tennis , 6/28/09 9:22 PM

fan4tennis..i am completely ignoring you from now on...and I know that Ricky....when he reads the posts...because trust me...he will...will also know that YOU WERE deliberating posting non-relevant posts to piss off said as much dug your own hole lady...

fan4tennis , 6/28/09 10:12 PM

Roddick is my man!! Hewitt v Roddick is a dream match, that is if Hewitt is 100%...did he injure something during match w/ Radek?

zoey234 , 6/30/09 8:13 AM

Yesterday Roddick convinced me not to bet against him. And what is that thigh thing going on with Hewitt? 25 strong Aussie believers pulled Lleyton thru over Radek.

Roddick in 3.. if Lleyton was just having a bad moment in 1st 2 sets and did not pull something, could be vice versa and either of them can beat Murray.

Murray over Fererro in straights

Nole over Hass in 3 unless it is hot. Nole must take over early for the win, otherwise Haas.

Federer! go Feddy! C'mon!

Federer has had the toughest draw! and making it look easy

zoey234 , 6/30/09 4:40 PM

I think (hope) Ferrero can take a set off Murray - or maybe even more than one

Shireling , 6/30/09 4:53 PM

Shireling, not gonna happen. Murray's QF will be the least closely contested match of the 4. JCF has played amazing tennis to get this far, but he is not getting any younger and grass is not his favorite surface. Plus, Murray beat him in (easy) straights at Queens.

IMO, the only person who has a chance of beating Murray before the final is Roddick.

stu , 6/30/09 6:24 PM

Hewitt and Roddick should both be in the semis :(. Can we trade one of them for Murray? :P

stu , 6/30/09 9:13 PM

stu, am in such complete agreement! I want either Hewitt or Roddick in the finals, haha. (sorry, just don't like the guy and the way he plays), he's lucky that Wawa couldn't keep up his momentum or he would have lost!!

If the Tennis Gods are to deny me, firstly, a Fed v Rafa final, and then deny me AGAIN by putting Nole in Roger's half so there's no hope of Nole v Roger final...then give me Fed v Hewitt/Roddick!!

Let the old timers roll!!!

Wouldn't it be funny if the final four are Fed, Hewitt/Roddick (I can't decide between the both of them, I don't like Hewitt but admit he deserves to go further the way he has been playing), Ferrero and Haas!? It'll be the return of the old titans :D

I'm hard-pressed between Haas and Nole. I like Nole and would love for him to be in the semis (and if I'm not getting Fed v Nole for finals, I'll take semis!) but Haas...dear Haas...would love to see him triumph as well.

Great quarter final match-ups IMHO and unexpected for half of them...

jyannis , 7/1/09 1:39 AM

You got part of your wish jyannis with Haas! He will be playing lights out tennis so you never know...........! I like Nole and Murray too (along with Rafa) but now that Nole is out, all support is behind Murray. Congrats to Haas for pulling it out!

fan4tennis , 7/2/09 3:34 AM

jyannis... rooting for the older generation, eh? That implies you in your late 20s, early 30s, or maybe older? I wouldn't mind an older bloke winning the thing. Show the younglings that we still have what it takes :P

A Federer vs Hewitt/Roddick final is likely to end up with one very predictable result... a win for Federer. Both of them have very one sided H2H in Roger's favour in recent times.

cable , 7/2/09 5:07 AM

haha ..fft..."lights out tennis" ...i like that term ...
I think we are in for a fight in both semi's ...but Fed- Haas match is gona be very entertaining sure ...

WIMBY09..where we right the wrong .
C'MON !!

fedexfan , 7/2/09 3:26 PM

fan4tennis, got half my wish, yes. Haas v Fed will be interesting and I'm looking to see if Haas does the customary and extend Fed to five sets again as with all their previous Grand Slam encounters. Although I feel for Nole...but Nole will have plenty of chances still. Regardless of what everyone says about his season this year, he will be a mighty threat at USO.

cable, I'm in my mid-twenties :) I got into tennis during the Hewitt-Roddick-Ferrero-Henman period...and the end of the Agassi-Sampras era. :D I'm really hoping for Fed v Roddick at this stage but Murray is on fire, as much as I hate to admit it. A-Rod will have to pull out a dozen bunnies out of his hat.

Really hoping for Fed to take GS#15 and it'll be sweet for him to regain the Wimby crown in the process but as the man himself says, still many serves, many forehands, still two matches away.

Or maybe it's A-Rod's time? :P

jyannis , 7/2/09 4:01 PM

As much as I like Roddick, I would prefer Murray in the final jyannis. Roddick has the tendency to "bend over" when facing fed. If he could ever get over that mindset and make a game interesting then I might change my mind. Plus Roddicks game is perfect for fed so unless he changes it, all results are the same...boring match. Murray has at least proven he can beat fed and would definitely put forth an interesting match!
Of course, if Haas should make the final, then it doesn't matter who he faces! It will be a great, fun, interesting match.......something that hasn't happened yet this Wimby!

fan4tennis , 7/2/09 7:10 PM

...It will be a great, fun, interesting match.......something that hasn't happened yet this Wimby!

It is difficult to imagine someone who loves tennis (like yourself) not enjoying/or finding the Hewitt-Roddick, or the Murray-Stanislas matches interesting at Wimby. Especially when you have made it quite clear your favouritism for the absence of your best favourite.

As a casual viewer I thought they were great matches, although I am 100% a fan of Roger Federer, (with no other favourites).

Unfortunately for you (and for those who do not care for ) Roger Federer. Roger Federer is on top of his/the tennis world game right now. Haas will fall, and in the FINAL, so will Murray/Roddick (whichever). Roger ROCKS! He is the "ONE" :)

sky , 7/3/09 2:21 AM

Wimbledon is HIS (Roger FEDERER's), and he will take it back to "Right the Wrongs"! LOL :) Go FED go! C'mON! It is time to take Wimbledon BACK! Beginning with Haas first of course (LOL). :) C'MON!

sky , 7/3/09 2:35 AM

They were good matches but not at the level of excitement I kind of have come to expect from Wimby. Of course that is all subjective for all. Thank you for at least acknowledging that Murray is my fave "in the absence of your best favourite." Some have called me shameful and the worst fan of all because I dare to like 2 different players. Many people on here have spoken of having a fave but also liking other players too. You have your fave sky, and I have mine. Let's just wish for a great final!!!!!!

fan4tennis , 7/3/09 3:32 AM

...that is all subjective for all.

fan4 tennis

This is true. Another truth is when the "best" favourite (or only favourite) is part of a tourny a glow of magic infiltrates, and possesses the aura of many of the other games, making many of the other matches that much more exciting and interesting... C'MON ROGER! C'MON!

sky , 7/3/09 4:14 AM

most likely it will be fed vs. murray on the will be an interesting match as i guess this is the 1st time they will battle in grass? let's wait and see if murray's talent can match up with fed's level of experience. I think if fed can serve well and make the rallies short, then the advantage is at his side. but if murray challenges him to longer baseline rallies, then it will be difficult for fed to dominate the game. as for now, it's very difficult to predict who will get the crown, both players are hungry for making another success story in the history of tennis. of course I want Fed to win, but I want him to win with conviction...:)

jennyger , 7/3/09 6:59 AM

You know who I really, really miss? Rafa. The tournament just doesn't seem the same without him on the other side of the draw from Federer.

faem , 7/3/09 4:51 PM

Go Fed! Go Fed! Go Fed!

Unbelievable tennis player!

Allez Federer!

malteser1 , 7/3/09 5:57 PM

How about Sister Act? Whoa....tomorrow's gonna be interesting!

Fed shut Tommy down, big time. Getting ready to check out the Andy match. Go Roddick! (I think it's perfectly fine to have a favorite player, yet back another when your fave is out of a tourney, btw. What's wrong with that? I like several guys on the tour, just none can ever compare to THE ONE!!

Go Roger! You're still THE ONE!!

Rafterfan , 7/3/09 6:23 PM

MDMCH! you absolutely blow my mind with the right-on predictions.

Experience over youth....very wise of you.

I think you are going with Federer for #15?

Does Roddick have a fair chance? I don't think so but...

did not fare as well as you on the picking

zoey234 , 7/3/09 8:29 PM

with the results from this wimby, the top 4 have points within the same range again (around May, Rafa had a huge ~5000 point lead over Roger). i think murray will be able to add his Queens points some time soon, but until then they are:

rafa 10735
roger 10420 or 11020
andym 9450
djoker 8210

with #5 delP at ~5000 points!

stu , 7/4/09 12:57 AM

Zoey, I am also very surprised for my right on prediction.
Roddick seemed to me like a spoiled child last year, like the guy that things that deserved more because of who he was, but didnt realized that this was who he USED to be. More or less the attitude proble that Djokovic has. At the beginning of this year, i learn of his work with his knew coach and his aim to improve his game, and I started to listen to his declarations, and realized that he has matured over the last year. He stoped being spiled and started working on his right to deserve the respect. Like once I listened to House ( from the tv series) say: "Arrogance must be earned", but arrogance should be earned not once, but everyday in order to deserve to have it. He did it. He proved that at your late twenies, in a sport that is considered for the early tweniers ( is it spelled right?) , you can still improve, and that teaches us a lesson in life about youth and about dreams. Youth is way overrated. Look at this semifinals. Fed (27) Haas(31) Roddick (26) Murray (22), they averaga 26,5 years old. Off course this surface alows to a game in which you dont need as much speed, as tactics, and precision. And experience gives you that. So yes, i think that beyong tennis this championship taugh us that, there is never late for improvements, if you get a weakness in your way, you may compensate it by improving another area. look at Federer, One year from now people were asking theirselves if he would ever win another Slam. !2 months from now!, people wondered if he would ever get to another final. Not only did he do it, but he beat Nadal on Madrid, won Roland Garros for the first time, equalled Sampras record, achieved a 18 matches winning steak an is one Match away of breaking the all times record of 14 GS. Isn't That amazing???, and he is not "young" for tennis, he is about to turn 28, I am his same age, and to achieve a parallel record on my own field would take me at least 25 years. I know is different but still, is a very big motivation for all our generation. And its also a message to the modern world of how it overestimate youth, how are "pop" culture discards experience, knowledge, and wisdon, replacing it with beauty, and fire works... I know that this is not very close to tennis, but this is what tennis means to me, a very fragmented representation of life it self, an act of survival on growing difficulties, the most simple representation of human intelligence and precision.
My final prefiction is Federer breaking the record, but really, even thought he is my hero, this time I would like Roddick to win, I know is kind of a sin to say so, but I think that he deserves it, But Roger will prevail!

mdmch , 7/4/09 1:50 AM

No kidding Mdmch Roger will prevail. He has beaten Roddick 18 times to his (Roddick's) 1. Roger is not invinsible, but his game plan, and his execution right now is "soo" ON, is "soo" CENTERED. He is a perfect combination of MAGIC and MASTERY! SUPERB! ... He is the "ONE". I'm hoping Sampras will be there to complete the picture. If not it will be Sampras' lost. It's history in the making. Sampras' belongs there to hand over the trophy to the FED. It would be fitting, and in my opinion the ultimate/perfect culmination to this GRAND SLAM. Aller Roger Aller! Go FED go!

sky , 7/4/09 5:29 AM

Independence day in USA do you celebrate it sky?

Allez Federer!

malteser1 , 7/4/09 4:47 PM

Hi Malty! I don't celebrate Indedendence day. I am Canadian Eh, "and" I live in Canada Eh LOL. I live in the nations Capital actually. (Ottawa) We celebrated Canada Day on July 1st! Whoopee! LOL Eh! I was out on the Parliament Hill for that and had a GREAT time, having fun with other Canadians and looking at the spectacular Firework display! BEAUTIFUL! :) Wishing tons of funs to all my neighbours out there in the US of A today (Zoey, fedexman, Rafterman, even fan4tennis! ALL AMERICAN FRIENDS "and" friends of tennis! Happy Fourth of July folks! :)

sky , 7/4/09 5:05 PM

sky...fan4tennis is no friend of should go and read some of the things she has said about fedfans on the rafa thread which are totally outrageous...and has no respect at all for roger.....she is no friend of mine..she is not a real tennis fan but a put her right on a few things which was twist and use my name the way that she does shows a cruel and dispassionate no. she is no friend of mine.

Ah...canadian...sorry my friend...sorry....but canadians are cool with americans and vice versa..right?

tomorrow sky! oh tomorrow!.....

Allez Federer! ambassador for tennis...for unicef....for fedfans around the world!

malteser1 , 7/4/09 5:58 PM

just some 'minor' stats FEDFANS.......

Federer will play a seventh consecutive Wimbledon final, a record since the abolition of the challenge round in 1922 whereby the defending champion was automatically elevated to the final. That broke Federer's tie with Bjorn Borg (a finalist from 1976-81) who was one of the legends court-side, along with Australia's Rod Laver, another whom the Swiss now rubs shoulders in the game's pantheon.

This will also be Federer's 20th grand slam final, one more than Ivan Lendl with whom had shared the all-time record. The 27 year-old has played in 15 or the last 16 grand slam finals - a streak broken at the 2008 Australian Open - and has won 10 of those.

Throughout a performance in which Federer's concentration and consistency were as important as his array of ornate strokes, there was little to suggest he is in anything but well placed to seize the famous title No.15. Against an opponent who nagged away rather than demanded an emphatic response, perhaps the only question was whether the Swiss can yet again elevate his game to the level that might be required in the face of a more enterprising opponent.

game by game.....bring it on! stay focused fedfans and keep visualising as we always have...(that includes you zoey...chick!)

malteser1 , 7/4/09 6:11 PM

Thank you sky for your well wishes! I was slammed for not being around but as YOU know, it is a holiday here and lots of prep yesterday and today for the goings on that will happen tonight! I visited Ottawa once many years ago and found it very nice, but EXTREMELY cold at the time--lol!

"sky...fan4tennis is no friend of should go and read some of the things she has said about fedfans on the rafa thread which are totally outrageous...and has no respect at all for roger.....she is no friend of mine..she is not a real tennis fan but a fake"

sky, you and I talked and worked out our differences. Insults have been thrown BOTH ways so no one side is faultless! Please don't let her decide who you talk to and who you don't! I never asked to be a "friend of the fedfans" so what she is talking like is crazy. I am a fan of tennis (who has her fave players as do you) and am not a fake and it is NOT up to her to decide who is a real fan and who isn't!

fan4tennis , 7/4/09 7:32 PM

Malty despite your feelings toward fan4tennis, I have to desagree with you today, we are not just talking about tennis today. This being a day of celebration for all the United States of America citizens, I would enjoy it if "ALL" US citizens experience a FUN day! That would warm my heart For SURE! Seeing that it is a small world in which we live I prefer wishing people happiness and good health rather than something else (none positive) fan4tennis is fan4tennis, she is a person too (despite whatever beliefs and choices she makes). It is a small world. It is a time of celebration. We FEDfans have a lot to celebrate about! We are RICH with HAPPINESS already! Whatever happens to our FED tomorrow will not take away from our happiness, but if our FED WINS it will add to our HAPPINESS! You see our FED is already beyond just WINNING ! LOL It is good to be thankful and to wish happiness to others, even if our feelings are less than happy at times... Let's share our JOY, it can only increase what we already have... You know I love you Malty! You are special to me, and to many other FED/FEDERITE fans! Let's share our joy, and let it spread out... (even if some people offer a challenge, or an odd way of expressing their joy back to us). :) Go FED Go! Aller Roger! ALLer!

sky , 7/4/09 8:05 PM

fan4tennis LOL Ottawa is "STILL" as COLD as EVER! but I love it here... The four seasons appeals to me. :)

sky , 7/4/09 8:19 PM

sky...whether you agree or disagree with me buddy is of no consequence to me.....the problem that you fail to understand is that fft has twisted my name and that is a fact...until she addresses me properly...then am sorry...but no way forward....if you condone that sky...then that makes you no know what she calls me and i have chosen to reply as a result of her you continue your conversations with her...but i want no part of it....

malteser1 , 7/4/09 8:29 PM

Thank you sky! Where I am, we have the four seasons too (but summer is not as hot as I'd prefer), but it was winter when I visited Ottawa yet it seemed SO much colder than here--lol!! Hope you enjoyed your Canada Day (am not that up on Canadian holidays)!! Tonight will be tons of food and family, lots of fireworks, and just a whole lot of fun!!! Thank you for your kind words!

fan4tennis , 7/4/09 8:32 PM

My oh my, we have hit a cord here Malty. I am "not responsible" for what other people do, or say, and or their choices. I stick around Federer articles and seldom have an interest to read articles on other players. This is partly because I am not interested in hearing none positive things posted about our/the FED. Those people have the right to write them, just as i have the right not to read them. I do occasionally read some of those posts, as well as offer my own comments on them from time to time, although generally I don't find that kind of interaction much fun, so I choose to stay away from them as much as possible. I know that your involvements/response to contraversial/mean posts are quite extensive. This is quite an undertaking on your part (in my opinion), and your choice. As a FEDfan I love you, and enjoy your comments about the FED, and appreciate ENORMOUSLY the person that you are. You fill this site with quality, and quantity of factual, fun, and clever statements about and on our FED. I love you Malty for that. Thank you. Whatever is outside of that is outside of that. I am just me (sky) nothing else. If I have made you unhappy, I am sorry for that. You are WONDERFUL! I will continue on reading your posts with pleasure. Whatever you may be feeling about me, I am a FEDfan Malty. :) Go FED go! Aller Roger aller!

sky , 7/4/09 10:13 PM

okay fedfans...a short extract from Roger about tomorrow and how he is off to bed now...feel really tired....but will be raring to go tomorrow.....enjoy your evening all fedfans.....get some rest and sleep!

malteser1 , 7/4/09 11:32 PM

whoops..! here's the extract!

"When I won the fifth straight Wimbledon and equalled Bjorn Borg's record, for some reason that meant the world to me," said the world number two.

"I was like in a bubble for two weeks, just trying to achieve it.

"So this time around I think I'm much more relaxed. Maybe it's also because of Paris.

"But I really think that experience of trying to go for my fifth Wimbledon was a really big one. That's why I might be actually a bit more relaxed this year."

malteser1 , 7/4/09 11:37 PM

Greetings FEDfans/Federites! I don't think it is "humanly possible" for Roger to be "MORE" ready for the Wimbledon FINAL match in 2009. He keeps on telling us how RELAXED he is... We have all the signs of a FED that will STRIKE with ABSOLUTE POWER and STRENGTH and DETERMINATION, and CONFIDENCE. A FED on "TOP" of his game. The Roger Federer we love has WINGS of MAGIC at his finger tips, and the LOVE of tennis in his HEART! He is a MADMAN tranquil and at peace for "ONE" purpose! "ONE" focus! To WIN! To WIN! To WIN! Roger is H O T! He is the "ONE"! He "ROCKS"! Go FED go! Aller Roger Aller! Let the game begin! Let's see what happens... :) Right the wrong Roger. Right the wrong Buddy! Go Roger! Go! :)

sky , 7/5/09 12:22 AM

Ah, I can't wait for tomorrow, I believe Fed can do this. I hope he does, I'm skipping church to watch live. D= Sorry god, I can pray from home this time.
I really thought that Roddick would beat Murray, and then I thought Fed would beat Roddick so this is as I thought but not as I wanted. I hated watching Andy lose. Sorry Andy, I'm not rooting for you this time. I apologize that you are only my second favorite and have to be against the first. But luck to you too.
Go Roger!!! My own luck to you!

Recordbreaks , 7/5/09 3:07 AM

Recordbreaks it will be an AMAZING showdown between Roddick, and the FED! the FED with soo much talent, and magic tricks, will make it very difficult for Roddick for/during and in every point. the FED while at the TOP of his game (which he is at the moment) is a MAGICIAN! I expect a GREAT performance by the FED. As for Roddick? Let's see what happens. Let the game begin... :) Go FED go!

sky , 7/5/09 5:57 AM

Malty I do not like my previous response to you, and for what it is worth, I am writing you another response because you are important to me. I want to say I do not consider fan4tennis a friend (as I do you) :), I added her name to the list, but she was meant to be there as part of friends of tennis (not so much as my friend or a friend of mine, although we have always been repectful of one another unlike you and her), and as she is an American, and they were celebrating Independance Day yesterday... I realize now I should not have added her name of all, just to leave it as "to all the Americans" would/should have sufficed. My mistake. I am hoping we can continue to have Fun, and to share each other's thoughts in a personal way from time to time about tennis. Just wanted to clear the air in a better way here now. I did not feel I had explained myself properly to you before . Wishing you and all the FEDfans the BEST of FUN later today with another FED victory soo close to becoming a reality! Another FED victory to break more records, but most importantly another FED victory to make us all HAPPIER than EVER! Mwah Malty! Federites Unite! :) I will be at work (again), but with you all in SPIRIT! Go FED go! :)

sky , 7/5/09 6:22 AM

A foot soldier groveling at the feet of her master!

danny , 7/5/09 6:45 AM

Looks that way danny. All he did was wish American's a happy Independence Day and mentioned my name among others. And I thanked him for that. He had the temerity to disagree with malty and malty laid into him, all because sky talked to me. Is a shame that sky felt he had to apologize for being nice just to appease malt.

fan4tennis , 7/5/09 7:51 AM

LOL FFT, the mere mention of your name is now a sin. Congrats though for standing your ground against that awful woman.

danny , 7/5/09 8:51 AM

mornin' don't owe me an apology at are your own independent person and can do and say what you like....i gave an opinion yesterday....and today...i have been proved right..just be looking at fft's can make of it what you will sky....

i am happy to be your foot solider danny is fft's whipping boy.....

the comments above....are what i am talking danny...well...his conversation is nothing more than one liners as that is the extent of his conversation....he cannot talk tennis..he can only criticise and brings nothing to the forum....

as for fft...well it is this last post from her that i found so uncomplimentary towards YOU...which is why this woman is no friend of mine...nor of yours.....she talks about temerity....she is probably a 5ft 6in woman in height but has a 7ft mouth....big problem......

fft....stop this now...i have asked that you stop posting me and stop trying to stoke this are NOT going to spoil my day today with your harsh, spiteful words...

i know that makes you feel big, empowered and adds to your conceited outlook of yourself....but really..a grown 50 year old woman should have better things to do...i do know when i get to your age, i will be the opposite of everything you are no role model, no lady and hugely condescending....

when you talk about favourite player...this is WHY you are not a true fan...

favourite means....'
preferred above all others and treated with partiality; "the favoured child" [syn: favoured] you see....rafa/murray/ kinda does are now at a loss as to who to support as you have no torres said on the other thread.....your favourite is 'above all others'....because you have tied yourself in knots as to who to now don't have a choice...and by using the excuse...'I'm an American...of course I'm gonna support Roddick'...why didn't you have that mindset when roddick was playing murray.....

d'oh! 'I'm an American..i'm gonna support murray? where's the logic in that? not only fake..but a traitor...your not a real fan fft...and you know it....

malteser1 , 7/5/09 8:56 AM

Malty! the FED RULES! I really wish I had taken today OFF! I will know better next time...

fan4tennis I don't enjoy the stuff that you and Malty dish out to each other... I am not in control of what the two of you do, you have shown respect for me, and I respect and honour that energy and have done the same to you. I did mean with every stroke of my heart a happy Independence Day to "all" American's "including you" (I believe you know, and have genuinely felt that), but on the other hand I love Malty! she is a FEDfan for GOD SAkE!!! A FANTASTIC FEDfan at that, a wonderful person (to me), and I just wanted to make sure without of doubt in her mind where my alliance is. Malty and I are a FEDfan FAMILY! I think it is obvious from the above post that I did not want to take the chance of hurting Malty in any way because of me. So I thought I should make that clear to her just in case. :) May you enjoy your new favourite tennis player of the moment today. After all we are talking mostly tennis here aren't we? LOL :) Go FED go! Aller Roger Aller! FEDfans Unite!

sky , 7/5/09 12:07 PM

sky..hi buddy.....the nerves...oh my god but also feeling cool.......everyone talking about him now.....just want him to stay am believing in MDmuch's comments a while ago....the 'wise owl' on this forum......all fedfans......go:go:go! Roger is a fierce competitor underneath the elegance...otherwise he would not have won so many slams....he trained a bit more...and we are gonna see TIGER federer! TIGER TIGER...ROAR!

he has shown his fighting spirit......let's just see...let's just see...let the games begin!

malteser1 , 7/5/09 3:07 PM

a great match so far sky....roddick and fed...playing really solid....

mdmuch that's for you! 4:3 on serve mdmuch....

malteser1 , 7/5/09 3:28 PM

"...'I'm an American...of course I'm gonna support Roddick'...why didn't you have that mindset when roddick was playing murray.....d'oh! 'I'm an American..i'm gonna support murray? where's the logic in that? not only fake..but a traitor...your not a real fan fft...and you know it....

Why haven't you been complaining to zoey that she is a traitor and a fake fan? She is American but you seem to have no problem with her not rooting for Roddick from the beginning ONLY because she was rooting for fed! How many times lately have I seen her anxious about who to root for in the final???? To use the last line in your post for your friend to show your disparity : d'oh! 'Zoey's an American..she's gonna support fed? where's the logic in that? not only fake..but a traitor...

Why don't you just make it crystal clear for all. If someone's fave player is out, then if they choose to root for fed, then they aren't fake. If they dare to choose someone else besides fed (GASP!) then they are fake. ALL the other people on this site that have stated that they root for more than one player are, in your eyes, fake fans UNLESS they end up rooting for fed. Who ae you to call someone a fake fan or not? Is there a test or a badge you had to take? These are our opinions who we like and THAT IS NOT UP TO YOU TO DECIDE!

fan4tennis , 7/5/09 5:38 PM

Rafterfan recently said he saw no problem in rooting for another player if your fave was out of the tourney. He is a fed fan and said that. Does that mean he is a fake fan too?

fan4tennis , 7/5/09 6:17 PM

f4t, haha... so much talk... But Alas, Fed won WIMBY2009...

What you should have done is jump to the all the players that faced Fed. haha... look how big of a joke you are now!!!! HAHah

torres9 , 7/5/09 8:14 PM

So everyone who did NOT root for fed is a joke? And you wonder why people come to not liking fed when they are faced with fans like you malt and zoey! One question (which I doubt you'll answer): Who made you or malt the deciders of who people can root for and if they are okay to do that?

fan4tennis , 7/5/09 8:53 PM

fft...have drunk too much wine this prob am not going make much sense...but my name seems to be coming up a bit here and i have taken this evening off celebrating cos fed won! hallelujah! he won...fft..and there aint a damn thing you can do about it...stop ya hatred now woman.....go get some therapy and accept the genius of the just come across as bitter...being the oldest woman on the should be settin an us youngsters? surely?

malteser1 , 7/5/09 10:39 PM

As usual, question goes unanswered. But Rafterfan and jan BOTH said they saw no problem in someone rooting for someone else when their fave is out of the tourney. You called me a fake fan for doing that! Are they fake fans then?

fan4tennis , 7/5/09 10:56 PM seem very very wound up about the fake fan is backed rafa (of course)..he withdrew due to then very publicly said that you wanted Murray to win OVER roddick in the Roddick v Murray semi final.....even tho' you now come out and say how patriotic you are....'I'm American...dontcha know?)...well if that is the case zoey..could you explain WHY you supported Murray OVER Roddick being a 'true American?' cos I just don't get it?

Murray then gets whopped by roddick...and lo and behold....roddick is through to the final...we now have a Fed v Roddick you DONT have a choice but to support roddick.... are certainly NOT whiter than white on this thread....have frequently called me names....MALTOSSER, MOLDY to name but TWO...but for some reason you seem to want to exempt yourself from the melee? You have many times discussed how much you HATE disrespect him as a GREAT want to change Sampras's words that come out of his want to call him arrogant...say he is presumptious when it was NIKE...HIS SPONSOR WHO SEWED IN THE NO.15...IF HE WON....and then he had is other RF jacket in his bag..should he have plllezzzzzz fft...try to be nice...just for ONCE...try to be are sooo bitter......

malteser1 , 7/6/09 12:16 AM

Who made you or malt the deciders of who people can root for and if they are okay to do that?

I'll answer that. We are not forcing you to do anything. You can root anyone you like but this makes you a fake fan and it's just more than coincidence that you root for a player that is going to face Fed. Clearly, you must be feeling the heat becoz you know deep in your heart that all you want is for Fed to lose. That's why you are mad.

But now you are just a bitter and jealous woman. Fed won!!! Yeay Yeay!!

torres9 , 7/6/09 2:41 AM

I was rooting for Murray from the beginning of Wimby, with no assurances that either man would make the finals!!! So are you saying, I can't root for someone unless they are in fed's half (since Murray wasn't)??? But in that case, they still have the probability of meeting fed, so I guess that's not allowed either. Either way, accept the fact that not everyone is going to root for fed and you have NO right to label someone as a "fake fan" just because they do not root for fed.

Firstly, we all know you are a Nadal fan.

I dont care too much about deuce because he has also been a Muzza fan. I like Muzza too but i dont go around saying BRING CROWN BACK HOME like you did or your sit in from 'imaginary' sofa. Pfttt.. Lame..

Fake fan is what I think of you when you suddenly changed from Andy M to Andy R after Andy M lost. That is so obvious that you want Fed to lose.

I never switched who I backed until the one I chose was out of the tourney. The choice was AndyR or fed. Is it so mind boggling that someone would want Andy to win over fed?

fft...YOU continually MISS the point. YOU bleated on about how patriotric you are..

(I'm an American...why wouldn't I support Andy Roddick?')......

It's got absolutely nothing to do with fed...this has got EVERYTHING to do with your state of are a fake fan however you wanna look at it....

If you were soooooooooo patriotric...YOU would have supported ARod OVER murray...that's what being patriotric is about.......but you didn' didn't.... you kept banging on about ...bringing back the hometown crown...crock'....almost as if you were some kinda of 'honourary brit'...the VERY idea!

you are NOT a patriotric are a fake fan and hugely UNPATRIOTIC....not only make excuse after excuse that you supported murray....and then as soon as he is out you switch to roddick....quote....('I'm an American...why wouldn't I support Roddick?).

So...fft...WHY wouldn't YOU support roddick from the start of the tourny..(I'm an American)......why wouldn't I support Roddick?....

you are do not know who to support....that is why you are not a true switch here and's a very poor show...

malteser1 , 7/6/09 6:56 AM

Then that makes you DOUBLY UNPATRIOTIC since in no tourneys have you ever rooted for any Brit or Greek! (Since you evidently are the expert on patriotism) You're the only one "banging on" about patriotism in alllllllll of your long, extended, rambling, hate-filled tirades. It's only because I rooted for someone you hate (Murray) from the beginning of Wimby and when he was out I rooted for Roddick. You just can't handle anyone not rooting for fed!
