  • Rafael Nadal - the One and Only Clay King in Barcelona

    2008-05-01 14:26:00
The Rafael Nadal mania is probably not more apparent at any other tournament than the one taking place in Barcelona. This is their big star playing a tournament at home on his favorite surface during the part of the season when we have got used to seeing “Rafa” doing a clean sweep. Other Spanish players such as World No. 5 David Ferrer, former World No. 1 Carlos Moya and rising Nicolas Almagro have to find themselves completely in the shadow of Nadal.

Almagro, who has already won two titles on clay in 2008, was not even featured on the Center Court as he took on Filippo Volandri in the second round today. More over, he almost lost all his composure as hundreds of kids went crazy next to Pista 1 as Rafa left the court after his straight set win against Potito Starace. Those kids didn´t care the slightest that a 22-year old from Murcia ranked No. 22 was playing right next to them. They had one name on their mind - and that was certainly not Nicolas Almagro.
