Thank you for sending me your emails this week- I received quite a mixed bag of questions, to say the least!
1) Which player uses the worst pick up lines? -UpnorthSnowbunny
DdV: Ironic timing you have, Bunny. It just so happens that I had a special weekend Blind Item, ready for publication. A young lady emailed me this week, detailing an encounter she had with a player during the US hardcourt swing, early this summer.
Friday's Sleazy, Pick-Up Line Blind Item.....Can You Guess?
This cad has a strong hold upon the top 50, but refuses to learn the most basic rules of etiquette. In an epic verbal fail, the boorish player asked of a comely, young fan:
"Hey babe... can you suck a tennis ball through 15 metres of garden hose?"
Clearly, in addition to being vulgar and inappropriate, the man holds women to a near impossible standard.
2) Does Ernests Gulbis have a girlfriend? -et al.
DdV: No single player has caused more email to find its way into my inbox, than Team DdV's current #1 on the ATP's Hot List. An overwhelming majority of the correspondence desired an answer to the question written above.
Here is my response, taken directly from a conversation I had with one of our readers, Leanne, earlier this week:
As for that neverending "does so and so have a girlfriend" question, I always answer it this way- Yes, of course, he has one. They all do. It's irrelevant for most (not all, but most) on the road when they are touring. My opinion? At 20 years old, he should be enjoying himself.
3) Hi, Your blog is ace - I'm addicted!
My question is about Novak Djokovic.
When he got knocked out of Wimbledon (very) early this year I heard John McEnroe saying he wasn't that surprised as there were some problems going on within the Djokovic camp. He seemed to be pointing to either the coach or the parents, possibly both. Is this another example of pushy parents being too heavily involved when they should give him some space seeing as he's not a kid anymore? Do you have any info on this?

We have definitely seen a different Novak Djokovic this year. Gone is much of the lighthearted humour to which we've grown accustomed, now replaced by angry, on-court rants, terse remarks made to the press, and some very lethargic play.
His parents, at least in the past, have not helped his cause. They have been a constant disruption, provoking the usually serene, Roger Federer, to publicly scold them in Monte-Carlo this year:

Team DdV was not impressed with Novak's tirade during this year's US Open either, as he launched into a two-minute rant, after defeating Andy Roddick in the quarterfinals:

I realize that he is a mere 21 years of age, but for an athlete of his calibre to publicly unravel in such a manner? Distasteful. Novak's negative monologue should have been delivered to Andy privately, rather than aired out in front of a pro-Roddick crowd, during a night session in Flushing Meadows.
Some have used the phrase "growing pains" to describe what currently ails the World #3. Time will tell.
4) Dear Dani, my best friend and I took a blood oath to read your blog everyday. WE LOVE YOU! But will you please write something about Rafa? -Megz
DdV: A blood oath, where you two actually pricked your fingers, all in my honour? I am touched and a little scared, Megz. ;)
I have received a few requests about Rafael Nadal, so expect to see the current everything-on-clay champ, the Wimbledon champ, the Olympic gold medalist, and the ATP's #1 player very soon.
5) Is it true that Dmitry Tursunov is permanently banned from eating at Pink's? -autumnfromlala
***FYI for those who may be unfamiliar with the reference- Pink's is a famous hot dog stand in Los Angeles, California, known for serving its faire to many a Hollywood celebrity.
DdV: What sort of a question is this? For the sake of argument, I will assume that you are making an honest inquiry.
Non-celebs will do anything to keep their name in the press, whether they leak their own homemade sex tapes, have embarrassing altercations with law enforcement, or acquire a permanent pink slip (no pun intended), from celebrity hangout like Pink's.
As it stands, I have not heard anything about the ATP Crab Apple's purported trouble at Pink's, nor can I begin to imagine what he might have done to warrant a lifetime ban from the nearly 70-year-old landmark.
If Team DdV receives any future confirmation from Pink's management, its short order cooks, or any grillperson whom he may have offended, you will read it here first!

That's awful. :/ Who speaks that way to people? It sounds like the usual suspect for sure, but I guess not. I watched the posted youtube video of Novak Djokovic~~~ I am so disappointed. The crowd was too. If he had some troubles with something Andy Roddick had said, he should have talked about it before he let it stew that way. Now people are mad at him. :/

There was an article posted somewhere about him paying a 19 year old model to accompany him to a tournament pre party. I don't have the link, but I remember all of us having a good laugh about it. LOL.

His comment demonstrates a mental disorder. Simply because one is a pro athlete or anything, doesn't mean he has a gateway to a supply of willing women. I believe someone has been beaten about the head with a racket more than once in his lifetime.
